Niihau is the smallest of the inhabited Hawaiian Islands is also known as the "Forbidden Isle." Since 1864, the island has been privately owned by the Robinson family. As a result, Niihau is generally off-limits to all but relatives of the island's owners, U.S. Navy personnel, government officials and invited guests.
