hmm... agree with what most people said... i consider a friend as a person who i can talk to and truly share my whole feelings with , trusting them not to blurt it out loud to everyone else. it's someone i'm comfortable around to talk to and to show my real self... have to say that it's really hard to find a true friend... i guess you know when a person is your friend when they still keep in contact with you and still hang out even though they're not going to the same school or whatever... someone you can talk to when you can't talk to others about something...

and there are those type of "friends" who uses you & call you up once in awhile just to ask something of you, which i find uncool...

When I know that person quite well and we actually had many conversations before or share certain things.

I'm not easy to get close to, relationship-wise. I still consider all who mean well towards me my friend in some sense, but there are few confidants. The gradient scale is pretty broad for me when it comes to friendship, people I will care for; it's just that the threshold where someone crosses over into trusted intimacy and faith is difficult to cross.

Friend in that sense there's only one. And man, was he stubborn to get to that position. Dunno what it takes, but based on this one, around 3-5 years.

A friend is someone who you can talk to on a daily basis.

Shared experience and the ability to relate to those experiences. If not that, then just being able to relate. Remember some friendships are formed on rivalries, where two completely different people didn't get along but became closer as friends because of the experiences they were put through.

So when everyone goes their own way in life due to the multitude of societal reasons for doing their own thing in life, they are no longer friends unless you keep constantly updated? Sounds rough, impossible from the pre-cellphone/email era.

My older bro only talks to his highschool best friend a few times a month. They are living very busy lives in different places with different families and social groups, and on top of that have people they relate to at their work places.

I would think that they are still friends however because they have good memories in life, and still keep in touch.

To a point you understand and trust each other. I guess throw in loyalty as well.

Anyone I spend time with because I want to, not because I have to or have nothing else to do.
