Once upon a time, when I still allowed myself to be a slave to fashion, I wore shoes very similar to some of the posts here. They were called platforms in the 1970s, & I'm still alive- they weren't really life threatening at all, no broken bones or twisted ankles, either. Matter of fact, I ran in them a couple of times to catch the bus for school, the only thing that broke was a strap on the shoe.
