Yes, very. I like shoujo over shounen and I hate yaoi. I also prefer genres like smut, romance, and comedy. I read one-shots most of time because they are short and don't get boring. >_<

I am pretty picky about my manga: it has to include a plot that intrigues me, good artwork - I usually like the popular genres of romance and comedy, but I'm pretty open to drama, psychological, shojo, school life, even shonen-ai in some cases. However, if I don`t like the plot, the artwork won`t matter, and neither will popularity- (Full Moon ,Kitchen Princess, Love Monster, Vampire Knight, Kaichou wa Maid-sama, Tail of the Moon, Special A, Gentlemen`s Alliance, Ai Wo Utau Yori Ore Ni Oborero, Bleach, Naruto, Shugo Chara, Code Geass, It's Love, Hot Blooded Woman and Fruits Basket after a while- even Skip Beat and Katekyoshi Hitman Reborn are leaning in that direction- to name a few.) I usually ignore vampire romances, magical girl plots. If the plot is creative, like Kami no Mizo Shiru Sekai or Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, then accepting artwork that generally differs from my normal manga pool (ex. Gintama, Superior) is fine. Even if I prefer another pairing over the intended pairing, I will still read it. And I also judge the manga by the cover and the summary. If I don`t like it at first glace, it immediately goes into the veto pool (where I will pick it up for a later evaluation when my favourites have no updates). Obscenity usually makes the manga less interesting. I don't really mind the elogated fight scenes if they're interesting. People getting too many new powers too soon irritate me too (notice the repition, lolz? )- conflicts should not be resolved in less than three chapters in serious manga, unless it's very insignifigant. In romance, the heroine can`t be the type who immediately likes the guy after a heroic action- even the tsundere types annoy me in some circumstances (Special A, Kaichou wa Maid-sama) -unless the mangaka has, by that time, made me like the hero too (they usually fail at this). The heroine shouldn't start obssessing over the hero right after love at first sight or whatever. I'm extremely critical of the" cool prince of the school" (Wallflower defied my expectations, so I continue to read it. Ouran too, until I got tired of it.) or "the guy who's good at everything-sweeps-heroine-off-her-feet-but-she's-hesitant" (Special A, Kaichou wa Maid-sama) type of scenarios - they just seem to give all of the power/ focus to the hero. If the hero looks like he`s monkeying around all the time in a uninteresting way, or exploits the heroine in a smuttish or really selfish way(Hot Gimmick), then I don`t read further ; so if it seems like the male character is just manipulating the heroine distastefully- then I won't read that. If he teases her too much, I stop reading. If the hero blushes sometimes and is not incredibly naive or manipulative- (one +) I can start to dislike mangas that I've liked for a long time because of a really bad change in the plot. The manga does not necessarily have to have a romance (Gintama, Liar Game manga or drama). Oneshots are fine, though. I will sometimes not read the manga but watch the anime/drama because I think the anime/drama is more interesting. (Mei-chan no Shitsuji) I don't judge the mangas by their artists, I judge them only on plot quality and (hopefully) improved artwork- so new, creative artists are welcome anytime. (For example, even if I don't like Fushigi Yugi, I may look into the other works of Yuu Watase. Even though I like Superior, I won't immediately like Sakura Yuki. What I will do is check out the mangaka's other works for intensive evaluation; however, I suppose I would favor my favourite mangakas over the mangakas of the series I really dislike -it'd be hard not to for me. XD If I've never heard of the mangaka, then I go by the criteria above.) If the story looks repetitive and cliche (unless the cliche was really good, which is generally not possible), I let it age until there is nothing left to read. And of course, the characters have to connect with the reader- if I think the character's being really stupid, to the point of it being unrealistic, then it's leave and ignore (for a while if it's likeable one). So due to my extreme desire to pick manga that's really out of the ordinary or extraordinary, as I should call it, there's really not a big pool of manga to choose from. Yeah, I'm pretty picky. But hey, compared to my evaluation of watchable dramas, it's not that picky.

Yeah...I hate the ones that have shallow characters but everyone likes them anyway. Especially the one that have pretty/stupid girls. UGGGH not a good combo trust me.
On the other hand I also abhor (vocab word!) arrogant/all powerful guys...you know, the ones that apparently have no weakness or fault except towards the girl they like.

Does that mean you don't like Hana Yori Dango?
