I have to be picky, there are SO many manga to choose from and so little time to read them.
The first test for me is the combination of the title, cover art and the plot synopsis.
If they don't catch my fancy, I wonr check them out any further.
(Sometimes I stumble apon a TV Tropes review about a manga and I will check it out, but thats only once in a while.)

Absolutely.
- The drawing has to be to my liking. If the art's not good the storyline has to be amazing or else I won't read it.
- The main characters (if it's a romance) have to be hot or I'm not reading it.
- If it's not more than 10 chapters, I'm not reading it.
- If it's too unrealistic and mushy, I'm not reading it.
- If it's all about boobs and sex appeal, I'm not reading it.
- It has to have some humor or I'm not reading it.
That;s about it (;

-good storyline
-good cover
-the people looks right
-cant be too old, like older than 2003
-not too short or too long, i prefer 20-30 chaps.

I can't help it but i try so hard to like really old art style anime and manga with good plots
