I'm going to run some of the LQ videos through some tests to bring out solid figures regarding video quality assessment. Honestly, this thread is sounding like a "he say" "she say" kinda thing, with people having their own two-cents worth, and no actual conclusion as to which player is better.
As far as video quality is concerned, everyone should see the same thing (unless they have a crappy graphics card). The real pincher is the loading speed, which will depend on the type of internet connection and other peripherals installed in each persons computer. I'll test a couple videos to see if there is really any improvement in terms of video quality, between the new and old players.
Test 1
~ I picked a random video from the Anime section and tested the video for visual quality. Here are some screen shots:
Video: Shakugan no Shana II - 11
Low Quality (Old Player)
Low Quality (New Player)
In these two screens, I compared the two players as seen in their normal aspect ratio. As you can see, the new player presents the image in sharper detail than the old player. In fact, when viewed here, the New Player exceeds in quality over the old player.
Low Quality (Old Player) | Larger
Low Quality (New Player) | Larger
When viewed in
Larger mode, the new player look pixelated and "blocky" since the visuals are sharper than the old player. Here, the old player is much easier on the eyes, since the image is a bit blurred, and the distortions of the pixels aren't that apparent. It gives the Old player an "antialiased" appearance.
In both views, the new player seems to lack a little contrast, compared to the old player, making the image look a little pale. For this round,
the Old Player wins.
