In another wave of restructuring announcements, the troubled anime studio Gonzo is planning to reduce its staff count from 130 to 30 over the next five years. Gonzo has been hurt by lackluster dvd sales primarily due to the recession. This has led them to air heavily censored shows such as Rosario to Vampire’s second season, which they advertised would be censor free come time for the dvd release. They had already attempted to cut their workforce by 50, but only 36 accepted their early retirement severance package of one month’s pay. They’ve already announced that they are cutting their annual series output from eight to four, no word on whether a further cut is impending. Sankaku has also reported that they are planning some form of ero-anime in a somewhat desperate sounding attempt to generate revenue. There has been no word on whether the economy will also have an effect on the production of Kurogane no Linebarrels, specifically if their plans have changed regarding a second season. Which, if they were planning one and have cut it, could result in a different ending for a fairly popular show with 6 episodes left in the season.

Correction, economic recession makes companies to reduce financial spending, while saving up to keep their staff when there's still a market. Piracy OTOH forces companies to go fuck themselves(they even told them so, literally), while killing off productions by reducing their staff when there's no market.

Yes i did, but does it really matter? As long as they still can produce good anime with that number its none of my concern about what they do...
