-PACE 2: SHE IN RED-
“Don’t forget to wear that vanilla lipgloss.”
“And that red sporty looking tartan skirt.”
“Your clip is slanted desu~ Let Su fixes it for you.”
“Cut it out you guys!” I waved my hand in annoyance. “If you’re coming with me you better keep quiet!”
The girls were giggling for looking at my hysterical expression. They have been all giggling and teases me through the night when I told them I’m going to the Amusement Park with Ikuto even though I’ve told them there’s nothing between me and Ikuto.
I exchanged glance to them and my watch. Shoot. I’m late.
Without letting away anymore second, I ran down through the stairs in a hurry with the girls following me after. I took a peek to the window to check the weather for today as I was rushing down to the first floor.
The sun was glistening bright. Trees were rustling softly by the soothing spring gust. Cooling breeze was brushing the leaves gently. It was supposed to be a perfect weather for a perfect day… but, it turned out to be the opposite when I had to…
“…takes care of the house while you guys are going to visit grandma?”
Mama who had been waiting for me from the end of the stairs nodded. “We didn’t expect grandma to be ill and at the same time no one is taking care of her. Ami needs to go with me too since she’ll be going to her dentist afterwards.”
I walked down a few more steps and leaned on the wall in distress. So this means… no Amusement Park? No premier ticket? No cool free rides? No… no… nothing?
“Amu, I’m sorry,” Mama patted my back, trying to calm me down, “but can’t you just ask your friend to go for other day? I know we’re being selfish but… that’s the least Mama can suggest to you.”
I lifted my heavy head and stared to Mama’s similar honey eyes and shook my head in disagree. “That just won’t do Mama. That just won’t” I gave her a long, exhausting sigh.
Mama scratched her un-itchy head, confused how to cheer me up. “Anyway who’s this friend of yours that invited you to this premier Amusement Park?” Mama popped up an unwanted question which I truly know I’m not allowed to answer, even a single, tiny, dust-like detail for I made the promise.
I decided to keep silent, pretending I didn’t hear her question; which unexpectedly made her even more curious. “Amu, who is this friend you’re going to meet? I know that none of your friend is exclusive enough to buy a premier ticket… not even that Nagihiko friend of yours even though his family is world-wide known.” Mama’s pushy question really made me uneasy, and she knew that from my bad habit of curling my straight pink hair in the wrong time and wrong moment as my pure honey eyes began to avoid an eye contact.
I bet Mama had started to think something weird when I started those repetitive gestures again and again. I could tell that from her bad habit too: putting her hands on her waist as her suddenly-a-little-bit-darker-than-mine honey coloured eyes widened with her eyebrows bent downwards. Okay, that’s not a bad habit; it’s a normal expression of someone’s angry. And she’s angry.
“Amu you better tell me now who is this friend of yours to me or I will ground you for the rest of your life,” she threatened me with her most fearsome tone and stabbing look. I heard she learned that from some psychologist she interviewed sometimes ago and believed by giving such look it will make your kids tell the truth. It worked on Ami all the time though… and perhaps this time it’ll work on me too.
Her aura was no different than any other hungry wolf starving to swallow her prey, which at the mean time: I’m the prey she’s eagerly going to swallow. “Well Amu?” her demanding voice somehow turned to be the voice of Dark Vader saying ‘Tell me the truth or I’ll eat you now!’. Fear must’ve made me a little bit crazy.
“I… uh…” all I can do next after those words was gulping and stayed silent afterwards. I couldn’t decide what to do next since both choices leads me to ‘death’ (even though I can choose to be dead on my Dark-Vader-mother’s hand or on premier-tickets-holder-Mister-Ikuto’s hand)
Mama was exhaling harshly through her nostrils to tell me that she’s at her limit and I better tell her about Ikuto right away or I’ll be a dead meat. I felt numb and confused.
What should I do? Think Amu. Think! Think! Thi-
“…Utau?” I covered my mouth with my hands in a swift. I can’t believe myself the word just slipped out from my tongue like that! Moreover, it sounds so unconvincing. I mean, why Utau, the popular rising singer, would spare any time to spend with me, a normal high-schooler girl with horrible score for her English test. And Math.
Mama squint her eyes as she rubbed her chin off, quite unsure with my answer as I thought. I couldn’t stop from fidgeting as well, scared that she’ll find it out soon and punishes me twice harsher for lying. The only thing I could do was praying for mercy to God.
“Mama!” Papa honked the horn from outside the house repetitively, “We’re going to be late! Hurry up!”
She took a look at the clock and sighed before taking her shiny orange handbag along. “Anyway Amu, don’t you dare go to that Amusement Park no matter what, or you’ll be grounded for the rest of your life. We’ll be back at five.” She walked out the door and closed it hard, making the ‘bam!’ noise throughout the house. I peeped from the keyhole to make sure her figure is nowhere else to be found except in the car.
I sighed, sat on the floor defenselessly. “What do I do now…”
“Maybe you could start by not saying you’re going out with Utau?” a husky voice replied.
I backed off and got my head bumped hard to the wall that gave me a great headache. My jaw was dropped open and I thought my eyes were about to pop out pretty soon when I saw the tall, firmed back, navy blue haired early twenty years old man wearing a dark blue smart-suit attire who was no other than Ikuto, standing on my staircase as he leaned his head to the wall.
I was bemused by his sudden visit, not noticing he was walking down the stairs, heading toward me. “Do I really look like my own sister?” he squatted down right in front of me as I was still perplexed. “Not to mention I’m a guy too.”
My mind was still wandering around in heaven before I came back to my senses. “I-I was in- I mean panic. I’m not used to lying…” I stuttered before I came to my realization, “Wait! How come you’re here?!”
He pointed up to the staircase which I interpreted it as my room. Darn, I should start making the habit of locking my window.
“I’m not patient enough to wait you in the train station,” he said while fixing his sitting position next to me, “or rather, not patient to see your face again?” he smiled at me, one of his most charming smile I’ve ever seen throughout my whole life. My cheek went red immediately, especially when my charas started to go all ‘oohh’ and ‘aahh’ and ended up with some crazy giggles with their eyes glancing at my burning face.
“We-well you’re still not allowed to go into someone’s house through their window!” I tried to defend myself and hid the fact I almost fell to his sweet words.
He replied with a shrug. “Then would it be better for you to have me waiting for you in the train station for ages?” he smirked, keeping me quiet for a moment. He sure knows that I couldn’t say ‘yes’ for it. It would just make me look like a cold-hearted jerk.
Nothing came from our mouth for several minutes passed. We were speechless toward each other, making the whole zone turned into the silent zone of a library. I sighed while putting my jaw on both of my hands, slightly still disappointed to know I was not allowed to go to the Amusement Park.
Wait. Amusement Park?
“Hey Ikuto you’re not going to the Amusement Park? I mean, it’s the premier ticket you know. You could still go there without me,” I said with the questioning tone to him. He raised his eyebrows and turned his head away and replied with a serious tone, “It’s useless if you’re not going with me anyway.”
Surprised and embarrassed at the same time, I turned my head away from his to make sure he didn’t notice I was blushing all over again. “Th-Then you’re being stupid Ikuto! The pre-premier ticket is really worth it! If I we-were you I’ll go alone without any hesitation!” I said, being stubborn.
“But I’m not you, Amu,” he smiled at me which triggered the pink flush on my cheeks to crawl higher to my head. Ikuto suddenly putted his head on my shoulder, which almost made me squeak in surprise. “I can’t leave you alone,” he purred to my ear like a spoiled cat, begging me to pat his head for his cutesy.
I could feel my head was about to explode when his tickling warm breath was blown to my sensitive ear. Not to mention, his silky, smooth, addicting scent from his navy blue hair was brushing gently from my shoulder to my neck. I took a glimpse to his face. The texture of his slightly-tanned white face of his is flawless. There was no wrinkle to show that he’s any different with the Ikuto I know from three years ago. His skin is so smooth and perfect. And those glistening pair of sapphire gems-like eyes of his was as beautiful as always. Yet, when I took a deeper look at those eyes, they were somehow lifeless, solemn, as if he has been worrying something from days ago.
I thought I was about to drown to his charming, perfect look until he called out my name. “Amu,” Ikuto’s voice was weak even though it brought me back to Earth. “I wanted to say something to you…”
“Oh my look at the time!” I stood up in a sudden which almost made him fall to the wooden tiled floor, “Mama told me to throw out the garbage! I’m afraid the garbage-carrier car would leave soon!” the word were spurted from my mouth in such a rapid and robotic tone, it made the confused look out of Ikuto’s face.
“But Amu, Mama didn’t say that you have to throw out th- hmph!” I covered Suu’s mouth in a speed of light and picked up the faintly trash filled plastic bag which was lying on the corner of the living room and dashed toward the door while dragging the three girls with me. “I’ll be back soon Ikuto! See you!” I ran through the door like a whirlwind and vanished before his very eyes, leaving him still puzzled and sighed, “She’s one of a shy girl.”
“Amu, just because you think he’s going to confess to you that means you could just run away like that,” Miki grumbled as she fixes her over-sized spade-clipped blue beret which almost falls off when I pulled them for my escape.
“True Amu-chii! Moreover you left him just like that!” Ran crossed her arms in front of her chest as she shook her head.
“You’re one mean girl desu. You even almost hurt Suu’s mouth-“
“Okay okay! I’m sorry! Geez,” I putted down the garbage bag near the park’s pole and sat on one of the well polished bench. “I was just afraid he’s going to say those three words and I won’t be knowing what to do,” I touched my cheek and felt the heat was burning my palms, “And I’m still blushing up until now.”
“Well, if you don’t want him to confess to you, you could just do what you did to Tadase three years ago,” Miki suggested which I replied with a great shook.
“I can’t,” I sighed, “He’s different than Tadase. The feeling for me to Tadase was no other than me adoring him. But I just couldn’t feel the ‘feeling’ when he confessed to me.” I messed up my layered pink hair in frustration, “But just thinking Ikuto would confess to me, the feeling of happiness overflowed my mind, but at the same time fear was there in the mixture. I don’t know what to do.”
I sighed even longer without knowing all my three charas were jaw-opened and gathered together so close that it leaves me no space to know what they’re talking about. “I think Amu’s stupid,” Miki commented in an almost-vanished volume. “She couldn’t even realize she’s in love with Ikuto,” Ran nodded her head in disbelief. “She’s slow as always desu,” Suu rolled her eyes in annoyance, “even though three years has passed.”
“Hey what are you guys murmuring about?!” I snapped, making sure they’re not gossiping about me.
“Nothing!” they shouted on top of their lungs with a huge grin on their faces altogether, which made me even more curious.
“Well, then,” I stood up from the bench and stretched up my back, “I think we should get back soon. I’m a bit calmer now. We don’t want to make Ikuto wai-” I thought my tongue was twisted the moment I saw it.
“Amu?” Miki waved her arms in front of my face but I just couldn’t let my eyes go from it.
The view of a semi-tall woman, wearing a gaudy rose-coloured dress with her chestnut silky hair, flaring by the evening wind kept me gaga. The way she walks made her perfectly toned, slanderous body sway in such a captivating way that it choked my throat in amazement.
I was most charmed by her excellent featured face: her eyes, her lips, her nose, everything! She had such a pure, gleaming white skin that every girl would be jealous of. And she had those glittery natural cherry coloured lips that every guy in the world would die for. But despite them all, her shiny, lively yet enigmatic silver coloured eyes were the most appealing of all. No any Japanese girl would have such beautiful features as hers since born.
Yet I could sense her aura as someone who the world would call her as ‘mistress’ and somehow she made this barrier where no common people could come near her.
“A goddess…” I mumbled without my own notice with my eyes still glued to her magnificent figure. Why would such a high-classed lady be in such a dirty, common park like this?
“Amu-chan!” Suu shouted at my ear. I was a bit jolted in surprise by the sudden loud high-pitched voice stinging through my eardrums. I thought I was about to be deaf at the moment, but gladly it turned out to be okay just as I listened to someone’s hum soon after that. And sadly, the lady was nowhere to be found in any angle of my sight.
“What are you blank-minded all about?” Ran hit my head using one of her pink pom-poms, “We thought you were about to say something.”
“O-oh right! Ur hum,” I cleared my throat, hoping it would cease any stupid expression that I made. “Then let’s get going- GAH!” just as I turned myself around, I was flabbergasted by the man in front of me who was no other than Ikuto. I think I had enough of being surprised and from the way he sighed, I know he had enough of me being surprised of him too.
“What took you so long?” he rolled his eyes, aggravated. “I thought I had to wait forever in your house.”
I tried to firm myself up from the shock first before responding him, “Was it that long?”
He opened the button on his long sleeve to reveal a grand looking Bvlgari silver watch to me. Wow, he looks unexpectedly gaudy. “It’s five to four,” he read the watch, “and you were out since twelve thirty.”
I slapped my own head. Oh my god. I didn’t think I would be that long. The frustration must’ve fast-forwarded the time around me. The frustration of…
I flushed the moment the memory streamed back. What if Ikuto confess to me? I know my face was burning red, but I couldn’t help it any longer. And now he is standing right in front of me. What should I do?!?!?!
There was a huge gap of silence between us again while my face was still steaming and all. Ikuto didn’t seem to bother asking me to go back home any time soon either. In fact, he only stood still right in front of me, blocking the sunray from my view.
“Wow, look at that,” his eyes suddenly narrowed to the other side which I eventually followed. The view which has attracted him was no other a newly built brick, grand-looking mansion with vines and other plants crawling about every inch of the wall. But I recognized Ikuto wasn’t looking at how the building was decorated or what it was made of. It seems his eyes were beaming on the big glowing words on top of the roof: Tohno Company Mansion: Lillia.
“So you did bring her to him, didn’t you?” he turned his smile to me now. A smile full of pride and satisfaction.
“Yeah, I think so,” I couldn’t help myself from grinning widely for my own achievement. Even though much was to sacrificed for this mission, I think I finally ought feeling a little bit of pride. And to think I used to feel all blue and sad whenever I see the building, remembering the sudden disappearance of Ikuto from three years ago. Three years ago where no one knows about his whereabouts…
“Ikuto,” I tried to make my tone serious while still having his attention on me. I inhaled as much as I needed before I burst out the question, “Where… have you been this past three years?” I exhaled, waiting for his answer.
Ikuto, again, didn’t reply my question. He seemed to always play the ‘mysterious guy’ whenever I tried to mention about his unknown past. But this time, he actually went up to me , bent his back to meet my eye level. I was bemused, agog by his splendid sapphire eyes to be so close to mine.
“Amu…” he sighed, “There’s something I would like to talk about.”
I could hear my heart pounded so hard it hit my chest. Oh no. Oh nonononono! Don’t tell me he’s going to confess. He’s going to confess! HE’S GOING TO CONFESS!! Wait, why am I all excited about?
I could only stand there helplessly, listening to every word he said while my head went all burnt. But instead, there was a long, very long pause. I believed it has passed 10 minutes and he hadn’t even continued his sentence. This made the condition even worse. Well, at least it is for me.
He gripped his hand, making a fist out of it. I could see he bit his lip indecisively, calmed down a bit before he finally framed up a defenseless smile and said, “Amu… This might be the last time we meet.”
My eyes widened, my eyebrows raised. Shock, disbelieve, disappointment, anxiety… all the mixture emotions overtook me. My legs were trembling, my lips were shaking, and tears began to sting my eyes. I was in such a great surprise that I couldn’t even speak to him.
He sighed again, knowing this would happen. Ikuto then stretched his right arm to my head, patting it in great care as he whispered, “I thought we could speak about this properly in the Amusement Park, but…” he took a deep breath, feeling guilty all of the sudden. Ikuto lifted up my face, making us gazing at each other for awhile breathlessly. His face was clustered in agony that I don’t even know how to react.
“Listen Amu,” he loosened his grip on my face and finally let go, “I will be taking off at seven. I might not be back for a very long time… I might not be back to Japan at all.”
“Where are you going then?” I raised my voice in panic, “You haven’t told me where you have been this past three years or how things are going around you! And now you’re taking off?” I wiped my tears while my charas were watching behind me in concern. “This is too much Ikuto!”
“There is no need for you to come back to France, Ikuto,” a soothing voice surfaced between us.
I turned around to find the royal lady walking with her red Prada high-heels approaching us with a smile. “Your ticket has been canceled by the Étoile group under my name. And your hotel room has been checked out by one of my butler and has been moved to a better named apartment. Bills and payments had been done by me so you need not worry about a single thing,” she thundered out all the words in less than 8 seconds.
I stared at her, impressed by her expert talk. But putting that aside, I recognized Ikuto’s face turned pale and stiffed as soon she came along. As if he was seeing a ghost (well, seeing ghost would be much worse. But knowing this is not my case, I won’t be able to measure).
She had the most illuminating smile that I’ve ever seen from a woman in my entire life. And she’s showing off that smile to Ikuto right now. “It has been awhile since you went missing, Ikuto,” she giggled, but her giggles sounds somehow different than how a happy people would giggle, a little bit more to sarcastic I suppose. “But that doesn’t concern me anymore since I found you now.” I found her giggles became more and more frustrating while Ikuto began to frown.
“Oh and,” she beamed to Ikuto with a stunning smirk, yet it gives out a dark aura, “I will be staying in Japan for awhile if you don’t mind.”
“Tch!” he threw away his face to the side with a quite annoyed yet angry expression.
I found myself confused all alone through watching their respond towards each other. Let alone understand a thing, I might not be able to understand them at all!
While I was still standing in confusion, her hazel eyes were suddenly focused on mine, widened as she gasped, “Oh my. I apologize for interrupting in the middle of your conversation earlier. It was rude of me,” she bowed her slanderous, fragile-looking hips deeply that I almost screamed in thoughts of it’s going to break.
“Th-That’s fine! Nothing to apology about,” I tried to sound formal, but from the way my charas giggles after I spoke in such tone showed me I failed to do so.
“Oh, that won’t do!” she approached me as she rummaged her exotic red purse and handed me over a golden coloured exclusive looking card. “Please, take this card with you to come to my concert this Friday! You may also take your friends with you!” her gentle smile made a stroke red bright flush on my cheeks. Now, why am I blushing for?
I took the card with me, turn its back and gazed at the silver text carved on the hard, gold card. I squinted my eyes, not able to read the fancy curled words on it clearly since it’s in English. And I suck at English.
“Well then, I’ll be leaving now to check my hotel room,” she permitted herself as her back was turned away towards the exit.
“Uh, wait a second!” I halted her in reflex. “Miss… uh…” Oh god I don’t even know her name. Her face was switched to face me but her body was kept to face the exit, waiting for me to tell her something. But I could only stand there, looking stupid for calling her without reason. Just because I don’t know her name. Her name.
“My name is in that card,” she smiled politely. “You sure can read English, can’t you?”
Her smile was full of expectation that I couldn’t help myself but lie. “Uh, sure! Of course I can!” I pulled myself a nervous grin.
“Excellent! Then I will meet you in the avenue on Friday,” she smiled again, which made me even more nervous. I don’t know her name, I lied to her, and now I had to find out her concert place to cover up my lie. Way to go Amu.
“Then I will take my leave now, it’s getting late.”
I swung my head to the tower clock on the park. It showed 10 to five. Ten to five…
“OH NO! Mama’s going to get home in ten more minutes!!” I patted my skirt in a hurry and sprinted to the exit gate in a speed of light. But as soon as I reached the gate, I halted, remembered about Ikuto. I looked back and stared to the navy blue haired man. He stared back at me, shook his head as he said, “I’ll stay for awhile.”
I was actually quite worried about him. He doesn’t look so happy when that girl came. But I couldn’t let Mama caught me outside the house. She’ll think I went to the Amusement Park.
“ He’ll be okay desu~ Let’s go Amu-chan before Mama caught us here,” Suu whispered which I replied with a nod and took a dash to my house.
Ikuto make sure I was nowhere near him anymore before he approached the red dressed girl in anger. “Why are you here?” he asked with a sharp tone.
“I was just bored and decided to visit Japan,” she twirled her splendid hair and played with her amazing pink nails, not bothered to look at Ikuto’s eyes. “Maybe,” she glanced at the sapphire eyed man with a smirk as she curled up the words, “I think I’m the one who should be asking you, Why are you here?”
Ikuto didn’t respond to her question. The red dressed woman’s smirk gone wider as she walked towards him and pressed her breast to his chest, playing with his navy silky hair. “Kh –“he gave a sound of disgust but she didn’t even bother, as if she’s used to it.
“Remember Ikuto,” she whispered but loud enough for him to hear, “You can never run away from me, for I will always chase after you.” She finally tore herself from him as she smiled sarcastically to him, “or I will make that Amu girl feel the pain as ‘she’ did.”
“Don’t you dare!” Ikuto growled but it kept her smiling even longer. “Then if you understand that already, know might want to know your place better,” she smirked in satisfaction. Not caring to listen to Ikuto’s reply, she took her purse and walked into a bloody red Bugatti Veyron who had been waiting for her appearance.
“Au revoir for now, Ikuto,” she gave him the last smirk before the car took off, leaving him alone.
