If people are so defensive about geting cancer dont go out at all... because the last time i heard sun gives you cancer too.

lol no don't start or the gov might just ban the sun. people need the sun to light their smokes.

erm... how do you use the sun to light a smoke? i wanna do that!

Ehm, smoking in public isn't social. It's just like shouting in someone's ear. You just shouldn't be doing it. So taking away rights? I don't get it. You're bothering others. How can anyone who does that have 'rights'?

No offense to smokers, it's ok to smoke, as long as you do it at home.

It used to be the very social thing to do.

Back in the day doctors even promoted cigarette brands.

Just because some "new evidence" says that "smoking can cause cancer"

Doesn't mean that people are any less addicted. nor that people don't still use it as social means.

I smoke and enjoy smoking, i have very few friends who are non smokers simply because they can't understand the relaxation and happiness i obtain from a random conversation with a stranger and a puff.

Well, I gave the example of shouting in someone's ear. So, well, maybe I like doing that. Maybe it makes me happy to shout in the ears of complete strangers. So should I just go and do that? No! Because it's really anti social to do so. Smoking is exactly the same, or even worse. Because it makes people's hair and clothes smell gross, and it can damage your health. And it's just not nice to breathe in smoke.
In my country, that's what most smokers lack, common sense to see how anti social their behavior is.

smoking kills people its true, then again cigar smokers arn't frequent smokers so they really don't have much to worry about, unlike the cigarette smokers that end up it hospitals on respirators, i mean if you are going to kill yourself smoking at least do it without a fine tasting cigar, it just tastes so much better especially if your smoke it with a glass of scotch(not beer)

Well when we light up, leave. No one asked you to sit around and inhale our fumes. We aren't making you breathe it.

I'll remember that the next time I'm standing on a platform full of smoking people. I can just walk away and miss my train. You're right. Stupid I forgot about that option.

You're misunderstanding me here, like a typical non smoker. (i don't mean offense by that)

You compare it to shouting in someone's ear.

Well, if you get upwind of someone shouting in someone's ear, you still hear them, even if the shouter is upwind, it still hurts your ear.

However, if a smoker is standing downwind and thier smoke is going away from the non-smoker, then it doesn't bother the non smoker.

The non-smokers seem to have very little tolerance for smokers.

This is actually sad, because i've seen MANY non smokers say extremely rude things to smokers. (yes even me)
That's WAY out of line, because i'm not saying you have to smoke, i'm not saying that you have to be BY me when i'm smoking.
All i'm saying is that i'm making a choice in my life, allow me to make that choice and stop reprimanding me for it every time you see me.
I'm an adult i know EXACTLY what i'm doing to my body.
And if you don't want to smell the smoke, then walk away.
I don't smoke right next to doors, and i don't smoke in enclosed places.
If you dont want to smell my smoke or "breathe my second hand smoke" (yet you sit next to fires and drive cars in cities which has MORE pollution to your lungs then second hand smoke from a passing stranger - i don't get that) then walk away from me.

The social aspect i was referring to, was that when you meet a random smoker outside somewhere, you have casual chat while you are both smoking.
I've met some very interesting people just because i smoke.

and i would NEVER trade those experiances for anything.

Yes i know i'm going to end up with emphysema (however you spell it) or worse, lung cancer.

However, i'm just as likely to develop breast cancer of skin cancer. So i don't worry about things that haven't happened.

And there you're making a mistake. By just standing there, I'm not bothering anyone. While smokers are bothering people with their filthy smoke. There isn't a 'right to smoke' just as much as there isn't a 'right to behave anti social'.
