Parents Ever Used the "Back then we..." Trick on You?

this is the most memorable one i recall.I was around 10 or 13 that time..

dad: back when i was your age i had to walk 4km back and forth just to go to school.
me: that's only coz' grand auntie is a miserly old coot! ay! *sign of the cross* god bless her soul..
dad: *hits me on the head with a rolled newspaper*

My dad would say the same thing. and other things like:
"When I was growing up, I was the earliest to wake because I had to prepare everyone's lunch, I had to get your aunt and uncles' uniforms ready and I had to clean the house, wash the laundry..."
And so on, then he'd hit me for no reason at all.

"back then if we talk back to our parents we get beat to death"
"back then we always do our hw"
"back then we would never dye our hair"
"back then we work so hard"
blablabla -_-
they use that line every time i do something they dont like..
very common in azn parents i think, not sure about other races

Yeah... Asian parents usually. I think it's because most asian countries were 3rd world.

it's normal for filipino kids to get their asses beaten by their elders. it's in our culture! you get to choose though.. belt or slipper?! well not to the point where you can't walk anymore, then you can call the cops. anyway the moral here is: put up with it coz' while you're within their house, eating their food and sleeping in their bed. they OWN you.

most of the "back when i was your age" stories they tell you are wholly exaggerated but they do mean well and you know that. they don't have the heart to ship your ass back to the motherland and to the countryside in which they were born and raised coz' they simply don't want you to go through the same shit they went through. that's why they tell you those stories hoping that even though you're tired of hearing the same shit on the dinner table day in and day out. you at least understand what they're trying to say.

It's your filial obligation to put up with their quirks. or you can use reverse psychology on them. soo.. next time your dad hits you just look at him tearfully and say "i love you too dad" then hug him "i'm sorry" be careful in using this one though coz' the odds of your dad beating you more is higher than him getting psyched out and hugging you back. i know i tried it..

me: pa, i'm sorry.. *hugs* i love you..
dad: ha!? *pushes me away* anak ng pating! let go of hand! t #$%#$#*^! gago!

My dad wouldn't fall for that stuff. He'd say the same thing yours would but kinda different.

just put up with it.. a few more years and you can migrate your ass out of the republic of (insert dad's name here) and into the real world. then you can get a job and a place of your own then call up your dad, buy him a cold san miguel and tell him he's an asshole and he can't do a thing about it.
