I agree! I heard he was sick which is why he lost all that weight... that's the official report. He's working on it. >.<;; I miss him.

And age in dramas doesn't matter. If he gains back his original weight he could pass for 20. He did so in Nodame which was only a few years ago. Ren just needs to look "older" than Sho or Kyouko. I think that Tamaki-san could do it. I have faith.
...

I would love for him to get better and get back to his "more filled out" look ...because seriously, he DID look very very TIRED in Love Shuffle...

He could pass for 20... but in his most recent work he looked older...much older (which being ill does do to you) ...still, when he gets back to 100% healthiness he could pull off a serious Ren :D

... and speaking of Nodame Cantabile...

"At first "のだめカンタービレ" was broadcasted as a regular TV drama in 2006 and then broadcasted as special serial dramas for two nights in 2008. The television show のだめカンタービレis finally coming to the big screen! The good news for fans is that two Japanese movies will be shown consecutively for the first time in the history of Japanese movies.
The funniest world, which the duo of Chiaki and Nodame presents, will be back on screen again!!

"のだめカンタービレ THE MOVIE (tentative title)"
Part 1 is scheduled to be released on 2009.12.
Part 2 is scheduled to be released in Spring 2010.
【Original story】 Ninomiya Tomoko
【Director】 Takeuchi Hideki
【Cast】 Tamaki Hiroshi (plays Chiaki Shinichi.)/ Ueno Juri, etc.
*The detailed information will be updated frequently as information is made avilable. "

YAAAAAY!!!!!!

I had to stifle a fan girl scream. *shakes fist* Damn you. Damn you.

But a filled out Tamaki is my first choice for Ren. *.* Kyouko is still damned hard to cast... but what about the other characters besides the main 3?

Bwahahahahahaaaa!!!
Don't I rock??
...by the way... my fangirl scream was probably just as loud as yours!!!
I can't wait to see it :D
... filled out would be soooo nice... mmm dreamy moment...

Hmm... Moko-san... would Aibu Saki be too gentle? Moko is a tough girl, she goes through a lot to reveal her gentle self which is buried deep down inside...

...and then I still keep coming back to Ren... oi... what about Hayami Mokomichi as a possibility? http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Hayami_Mokomichi

(you can tell by these 2 last suggestions what I just re-watched... whooooo what an emotional drama... sigh... it was very good though, Zettai Kareshi...they did a good job with Watase Yuu's story.)

...anyways, the reason I keep putting additional suggestions on the table is because if they do make the drama in Japan, the chances of them doing what we want is like zero... which really sucks... but maybe we would all feel somewhat better if when the drama does come out, the actor(s) playing the role(s) will have at least been mentioned somewhere, ne??

and about Shou... the guy needs to have a tougher face - meaning leaner and slightly meaner, so Oguri Shun may just be too "nice/friendly" looking...
- your suggestion of Sato Takeru would work...

oooh, what about Yashiro-san? And who would make a crazy President Takarada??

President Takarada, I SOOO still vote for Abe Hiroshi. ^_^ He did Dragon Zakura and has played plenty of quirky characters. He can play in your face quirky or subtle quirky, but he's definitely my first choice. He is tall, but so is the president of LME... http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Abe_Hiroshi He's not adverse to doing bit parts, he's a great actor and he would make a great role model for the younger cast.

Oguri Shun is too much the nice guy. I think he could do the director of Dark Moon though. ^_^ He's played that type before.

Sato Takeru would make a great Sho. Cocky, arrogant, and I don't think he has to do much to pull off the rest of Sho. I think that Yamapi could pull off a silently cocky Sho, but Sho is more in-your-face cocky... but Yamapi does have the presence. Takeru first, Yamapi if Takeru turns it down.

I'm thinking about Ren's manager, Yashiro, too... 'cause that part looks easy on the outside, but is tough to cast if you look at it. Quiet, supportive a little scheming, and gets easily frustrated... that's more considered a female role. O.o;; Not many males play that type. Plus it would have to be someone willing to wear glasses.

Mokomichi has the looks, but I don't feel the presence from him that I do from Tamaki. I thought about him too, but even though he has the range to do so, Ren kind of has that everyone will look at him once he's in the room feel, and I think Tamaki in his dramas has that feel no matter how whiny he gets via his roles. In this case it's preference based on charisma and personality. Tamaki first, Mokomichi if Tamaki turns the role down. Haha. Now I'm acting as Casting director.

How about Ren's father? I would want a veteran to take this part that everyone in Japan knows very well.

Let's see... so the cast list...

Kyouko- Still debating this role. <-- hard to cast.
Ren- Tamaki first, Mokomichi second.
Sho- Takeru first Yamapi second.
Yashiro- ??
President Takarada- Abe Hiroshi
Sawara-san- ??
Dark Moon Director- Oguri Shun. (He can play soft and feminine).
Moko-chan- Aibu Saki (good choice... she just needs to step up the hard edge a little)
Shoko Aki- ? Maybe Yukie-san. ^_^ She can play that type.
Maria- http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Yoshida_Riko <-- I strongly vote for her. She can sooo do it. If not that role, then young Kyouko... but her as Maria is my first choice.
Ruriko- ???
Reino- ??? Maybe Yamapi could do it... he has the silent forceful arrogance... but he probably wouldn't do it since it's not a well developed role and a bit role at that...

If we got that cast it would be beautiful and with the right writer, I think that it could be very well done.

Screenwriter: Etou Ren (Nodame writer. Kept close to the source material and managed to outshine the anime despite the anime being good too.)
Director: Takeuchi Hideki ^_^ His resume is good. (Though they tend to have more than one PD... he's a good start).

I think we two have almost a complete drama. It's eye candy, but it should be. Idol candy, but it should be... Now if we could find a good female lead... Maybe open auditions? Haha. I would watch this drama with that cast and that writer... I miss the really good dramas that make you say NOOOOO NOOOOWWW. The last one for me was Nodame...

I would vote that it would run two seasons, have a SP and a movie. ^_^ It should be enough to get through most of the manga, if not all of it.

The Dark Moon arc should be the SP.... ^_^ <3 2 hours. Muhaha.

Yes... if we had any influence on who was playing who... boy would we all cause a big fuss in casting!!! Hahaha :D
I definitely would agree with Shou being played by Oguri Shun... that type of role is perfect for him... and so to whomever suggested him as Shou earlier in the discussion...we're sorry ^_^' but he's just toooooo nice
As for Mokomichi... yes he does need a little more "umph" but its possible to do it ... although Shirota Yu... still a third possibility... he was kind of aloof in Hana Kimi so maybe he could pull off the REN persona
...as for the rest of the cast... whooooeeee... tough to pick...
I like the screenwriter choice most definitely :D

I wonder if we could sort of forward the link to this discussion board topic to the right people... find the "contact us" page of TV Tokyo and start harassing them

as for how much of it should be made... I like your 2 seasons, SP and movie idea but ... maybe there could end up being 3 seasons because the manga isn't finished yet...

I wouldn't care as much as long as they find suitable actors to play the part b/c of their skills and not b/c of their popularity.. the keyword is SKILLS----> who are able to play the characters and match them.

We should go attack the forums on Japanese websites put our thoughts everywhere and sway the opinions of the casting directors towards the cast that we want!!!!!!!!

wouldn't it be great?

... hmm... I had this other idea... what about casting Yamapi as Yashiro? He'd get a lot of screen time (though not exactly in the foreground)... and the role is interesting... He wouldn't mind the glasses, right?

(this is if he doesn't get the other role suggestions)

I agree with your Kyouko - I really like Ueto Aya for this part she could pull it off, I think, and acting in Attention Please she did a good job being slightly mean/devilish and also very caring... and in Celeb to Binbo Taro she really did some nice acting :D

As for Ren... hmm... Matsuda Shota, he's not tall enough...

and Shou - I like Koshinaka's look... does he have any acting experience?
...but I don't like putting Mizushima Hiro in such a role... we don't want him as the bad guy...nonono... he could do it though... but... argh... I don't want to imagine him in that role... its messing with my head!! waaaa atama ga itai!!

He looks the part, yes, and he can act the part, yes, (if you see Kenzo from Prop dai you know he can do it.) But he's a touch young. Yashiro-san is married, with kids... and uhh... *cough* I don't think that's a good use of Yamapi to make him that much older.

rjoy wrote:

Aya--no one has convinced me yet that she can emit dark auras... anyone have her dramas where she can act really dark...? I mean like spine tingling dark? Or are people going on looks? Plus I think she's too pretty. i.e. I think that Kyouko has to stick to ordinary girl until one puts on make up... Her description is "pretty with make up." But Aya is pretty even without it.

Because if you are doing it on looks alone or fandom alone, I've found that this can make for some really horrid acting and bad dramas. Prince's First Love is SOOOOO bad despite the faces. Spring Waltz is the same. Good faces, bad writing, and mediocre acting. J-dramas have this problem too and then the ratings fall and then it gets close to getting canceled.

<--- I'm taking this casting seriously. I know. You can smack me.

It shouldn't just be face chops, it should be acting chops too.

Shota Matsuda <-- He's more of a Sho type than a Ren type. If you look at his resume he's played arrogant, full of himself, and dark. The J-drama team is more likely to cast him as Sho. He also doesn't have the right looks. As Sho he might do a good job. But I think he would have to really step up his arrogance from Love Shuffle...

Makoto Koshinaka <-- fails. Singer, not actor. Not all singers want to be actors. Ideally Sho should be able to do both...

Mizushima Hiro <-- Not bad. He can act both cool and active, plus writes lyrics... he has the face and ability...
***
Matsumoto Jun <-- As Sho? Anyone think of him. He can act very arrogant, has the overachiever sense down and can keep toe to toe to anyone who plays Ren. He has no problem playing that sort of role...

KYOUKO
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Tanimura_Mitsuki <-- I've seen her in a number of roles. From I don't give a damn about life and talking course to very lively, to very menacing. She's a not pretty until you put on make up type. Cute with long and short hair, but not overly pretty, she has played plenty of plain roles and played at least one role where she was trying to understand the feelings of an actress. She's been in manga-based roles before, so I know she doesn't shy away from that sort of thing. Her resume is extensive and based purely on ability I think she could do it. But I think people will shoot her down based on looks alone. She can lead and she has no problems taking secondary roles as required of her in acting Kyouko. She also has a character actor ability as well because she always blends into her roles in a way that Kyouko also does such that I didn't notice her until I saw quite a few of her roles.

Some dramas to check out of hers as resume for Kyouko...
Mei-chan no Shitsuji (Upbeat talking in dialect and double faced dark that episode sent chills down my spine. ^_^ <3)
Cat Street (Plays an introvert that tried to please everyone... until it backfired).
Taiyo to Umi no Kyoshitsu (Played average school girl)
Pandora (played a girl with cancer angry at the world).

She's also played supportive friends roles which is good for Kyouko and outcast roles (as in Cat Street) So she has all the elements, so I think if you push her to do Kyouko she can deliver... The upside too is that she's from Osaka!! And you DEFINITELY need that because where is Kyouko from? Kansai! I thinks she can play a high lady role as well.

I bet many of you never noticed her before... which means she's a good actress. She cares more about acting her roles well and creating her characters than taking over the lead... and I think Kyouko needs this quality in the actress herself because it's hard to remove from an actress who has it...
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Yoshitaka_Yuriko

O.o;; I just found out she played a semi-upbeat character. caught me off guard. She can DEFINITELY emit dark auras. She also plays upbeat such as in Taiyo to Umi no Kyoshitsu.

She's played school girls, and she's creepy as all hell when she wants to be. The parts she would have to work on to secure Kyouko is the "oujo-san" part of Kyouko and perhaps that feeling of competitiveness. I think she can work with others and blend into roles. She might be a good choice for Kyouko. And if you don't think she can emit dark auras, watch Love Shuffle. O.o;; She's acted some really weird roles too.

REN
^^;; Tamaki is still my first choice... I can see his Ren very well and it'll be a good challenge for him which I think he'll welcome.

I don't think I've seen Anna in any dramas actually. She mostly plays in movies which is another reason why I doubt they'd cast her. haha she is just my ideal choice...
but I love her movies!!
I suggest Shimostuma Monogatari

and sakuran

oh I don't know if someone already said this but...
