If Japan made a drama version of Skip Beat, who would you want the actors to be?

Kyouko: I SECOND TANIMURA MITSUKI AS KYOUKO!! in fact, i think i did mention her as well a few posts back. i'm just not too sure if she can pull off kyouko's 'genkiness' as well as her other weirder traits (not the scary ones..she has those down pat). other than that, i can totally see her playing Mio ^_^

as for Aya...it's the other way round for Aya actually. I'm pretty sure she can play the genki Kyouko, but i'm not sure she can play the dark Kyouko...However, I do have a feeling she might be able to pull it off...even as Mio. I don't think ppl give her enough credit as an actress, simply because she keeps playing more or less the same roles. I have no references for this opinion...just a gut feeling really.

Maria: YOSHIDA RIKO. Definitely. No dispute about this so far! She's perfect for the role. I can already see her in Maria's curls. ^_^

Moko: Let's see, Moko's supposed to really pretty (like, MODEL pretty), talented in acting, stuck up, cold, but with a soft spot for Kyouko...oh and yes, she's supposed to be SEVENTEEN. I don't expect all the actors and actresses to be of the same exact age as their counterparts, but if we're going for Tanimura Mitsuki as Kyouko, whoever's playing Moko has to look about the same age as her. Yamada Yu and Mizukawa Asami cannot pass as 17 or anywhere remotely near that age.

I was thinking..SAWAJIRI ERIKA as Moko? She is a really good actress to have pulled off the role of good (but sick) girl in One Litre of Tears. And acting stuck up and bitchy can't be that hard.. ( in fact, I was wondering whether to bring this up, but there have been complaints that that's what she's really like in real life...but whatever. i think she's a really talented actress and that's what matters)

Sho: I stand firm with my original choice of MIURA HARUMA as sho! he looks the part and he can definitely act the part. References? Gokusen (delinquent role..cocky, angry boy type), Koizara (delinquent again..but more playboy-ish type), Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge (he actually sang for this one...and he plays guitar too). But he's not only good for bad boy roles...he shows versatility in Binbo Danshi (painfully shy, insecure, almost dorky, debt-ridden boy), 14 sai no haha (weak character who's been controlled by his mother all his life, slightly emo). That versatility in his acting is going to be really important when Sho undergoes character development in later episodes (well, he can't just be some one-dimensional jerk throughout the whole series, right?).

Ren: Now this one is tough. I originally went with Shun Oguri for this part simply because he really is a very versatile actor (HYD, Crows Zero and omg...Binbo Danshi! That's when i realized he could really ACT!). Plus, he's got the height and the charisma to pull it off. The only problem? He doesn't look GAIJIN at all. Ren is supposed to be 'half' right? And Oguri Shun just looks too asian to be Ren...sigh :(

As for Tamaki, there is the age factor.. u gotta admit, he really looks like he's aged 5 years since Nodame. He looks so haggard and unhealthy (sorry to Tamaki fans... but y'all know what i'm talking about!). I'm also not too convinced with his acting skills....he always seems to have the same way of acting, regardless of whether he's playing the cool Chiaki-sempai or the slightly dorky guy in Love Shuffle...I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but there's this dorkiness/silliness to Tamaki (even when he was playing the serious Chiaki-sempai) which I think might be his real character just showing in his acting. IMO, he's just not suitable to play Ren.

And for all those who suggested Yamapi....sorry, i'm not too convinced with his acting either (not even in Kurosagi...especially not in kurosagi actually). And I don't think he looks the part.

So who would be the perfect actor to play Ren? I have no idea.

Yashiro: MUKAI OSAMU! Yaaay someone had the same thought as me ^_^ I think Fujiki Naohito is just too good for this role (although it is an important role too...) Maybe he can make a cameo appearance as the director of the first drama that Kyouko ALMOST starred in (the one with that bratty 'last idol' girl).

Sawara: TOYOHARA KOSUKE. He's perfect as Sawara-san really. I can so imagine the look of fear on his face when Kyouko stalks him.

President Takarada: I've said this before and I'll say it again. KAGA TAKESHI. If not, Abe Tsuyoshi is next in line.

So basically the cast list is: Tanimura Mitsuki (Kyouko), Sawajiri Erika (Moko), Miura Haruma (Fuwa Sho), Yoshida Riko (Maria), Mukai Osamu (Yashiro), Toyohara Kosuke (Sawara), Kaga Takeshi (President Takarada). Ren? I'm stumped. The rest? Meh..not too picky about that.

it is in season 1, episode 4 - Slot

And about...

Tanimura Mitsuki
OMG! is she in 14 sai no haha and watashitachi no kyoukasho? I didn't notice her...how stupid can i get? i recognize her acting skills alright but once the show mei-chan no shitsuji is brought up, i just didn't recognize her picture there in drama wiki. i haven't even started the show yet. i am interested in the show but a lot of dramas has been sprunging up lately (i am also a twdrama and kdrama fanatci BTW) so it is just hard to find the time but because you convinced me all too well, might as well watch...(there is mizushima hiro too haha)

Yoshida Riko
i can't agree with you more...

No one has listed roles for Aya to convince people she's perfect for the part... This would be kind of problematic... where is Dark Aura Aya? Could one of the Aya fans do me a favor and list out all the roles that make her fit the part?

exactly. that is why i can't judge her. i have only seen her once in Tsubasa no Oreta Tenshitachi (which made me recognize her) and a movie called "Install". I don't like the movie, though she portrayed her character very well. i am willing to watch attention please but as said earlier, no time.

I will be willing though if some member who thinks she is great for the part would be kind enough to list down her strenghts in each drama and/or movie

New Nomination

http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Shimizu_Yuya I nominate him for Kid Sho. Energetic, played the outcast, a cute kid, I think he could play Sho. I can't see him as Kuon though. Edison no Haha and Uta no Oniisan should prove that he can play an arrogant young Sho.

never seen the kid....sorry

i would have to disagree with this... eventhough she is a real bitch in real life, i just can't seem to imagine her from her roles in 1 litre of tears and taoyou no uta...sorry

And for all those who suggested Yamapi....sorry, i'm not too convinced with his acting either (not even in Kurosagi...especially not in kurosagi actually). And I don't think he looks the part

why????

are you not convinced in his acting in code blue and kurosagi?

sure he can act Sho well but when he has gone to this cool route, i can't just stop rooting for him.

i didn't know he is in yukan club...but his role is still that of the detective...a funny one...so you convinced me here haha..good choice!
when you said earlier he is in death note as the father of light i expected already someone dark.

If not, Abe Tsuyoshi is next in line

i can't understand it why do you want him to continue act more older roles? he already acted old in koizora the drama...don't make him older than that...it would be hard to visualize him as mimasaka again if this happens

I think that shortly after Mei-chan no Shitsuji she'll get more genki roles since she plays that type in the drama. The fact she's a bit character in the drama is holding that part back for her. But she's the type that reinvents roles much the way Kyouko does... Such that people forget about her and she blends in well... but give her a lead role and her acting really shines, like in Cat Street. The fact she can go from forward to back like that and play those roles very well... the more I watch her various dramas, the more I have faith in her. And she definitely hasn't shown ego in choosing her roles, which I think for the actress that plays Kyouko that will be critical for bringing out the sweetness in her...

Aya, I watched her in a few roles, but I just can't see her being able to spin the roles like Tanimura Mitsuki!!! Tanimura definitely has a talent for producing all sorts of kinds of characters no matter what she's given. ^_^ She may be a natural Kyouko in today's Japanese industry.

If you aren't convinced, then Mei-chan no Shitsuji should really make you think she can do it. The beginning episodes are all her acting airheaded and popping out of nowhere. She does that *very* well and coordinates with the cast very well. It's to the point that her acting is better than the lead, so I think the fact she plays a critical role later and is trusted is partially due to that. ^_^

^_^ As for the other opinions, thanks for helping to geek out with us. Hahaha. I love how you don't want to waste actors. Haha.

I'll have to check out the drama with Ueno Juri. ^_^ I ran out of dramas or will run out soon. (I watch Japanese, Korean and TW dramas too.)

Rainie's acting has marginally gotten better, but I wish the formula for her would change a little... but that's off topic.

Ueto Aya
I've seen her in Celeb to Binbo Taro where she played a rich heiress she sooo had an opportunity to be prissy and mean in the beginning, but she kind of jumped ship on that and turned nice quickly... at least to me. In retrospect, I think she could have spun this role a little better. She could have gotten really mean at the beginning. If she was really mean then I'd be more convinced she could do Kyouko. There *has* to be a mean streak in Kyouko... otherwise Mio and the whole revenge thing won't work. She definitely needs one for Natsu... <-- Don't ask about Natsu. It's a spoiler.

Ace wo Nerae I saw her in this too... but no dark Auras...

My Little Chef was a pretty poor way to assess her skills, but I saw her in that. She did have a small streak of jealous in that... but still, it falls short from the maniac jealous and revenge...

(Abe Hiroshi was very amusing in that... I *love* his acting.)

So overall, I can't find that spark. I think I remember watching Attention Please, but for the life of me I can't remember watching it. (i.e. I watched and forgot it.).

I'd like to see more range and more ability to spin her roles before I'm secure with her being Kyouko. Anyone... please help...

No one seems to have a problem with the director and writer I chose. Haha. No one has a problem with the writer from Nodame and the director from Nodame? ^_^ I'd put my faith in them if this drama was real.

For me, Dark Moon would be a *long* Special. Haha. I don't think having the Dark Moon arc for just 2 episodes is long enough. We need a 2 hour special so we can get the cabinet scene to be nice and *long* ^.~ 2 seasons, 1 special and a movie should be enough, right?

I'm happy to hear that a lot of people said Aya Ueto should play Kyoko. She does look incredibly cute and knows how to act sassy and sweet at the same time. But when it comes to Ren. He seems to be the hardest character to make out into a live action character. I still go with my previous suggestion that if they ever make a live action drama they should cast Kaname Jun for the role of Ren. He's always playing supporting roles though so i'm too sure if he can pull off a Ren in terms of acting.

Kyoko is REALLY hard to find - you need some NICE and EVIL, but most of all : FUNNY !
That's one helluva combination and with many japanese actresses, they usually fall into one or two categories - but to have all three - that's gotta be someone either "new" or someone that is really REALLY good.

I agree with all the Male choices - Even you guys reversed some of them - I'd still watch it.

There are quite a few gorgeous men who could possibly play either Ren or Sho that have NOT been mentioned (well, except for one of them, but I just like his picture so I couldn't resist posting it). Men that are good-looking, may or may not be tall, but are great actors and could pull of a blond wig are possibly: (and even if you don't agree, enjoy the eye-candy, heehee)

FYI - My top pick though is not posted below but I agree with the above ^ (Kaname Jun is my favorite and I think he'd make a perfect Ren: I've seen him in LOTS of roles - he's great at the aloof, strict yet caring, tall and gorgeous and sometimes even a bit quirky/funny - check out his most recent role in RESCUE. He was also in Academy Q (the kid detective thing - i was impressed by him there too, lol).

Also, for those that have doubts about whether Horikita Maki can do Kyoko - well, she AND Kaname Jun have a comedy drama coming out later this year - it's called: Atashinchi no Danshi. I'm totally looking forward to seeing that. hehe

Uchi Hiroki

Mizushima Hiro (aka Saito Tomohiro)

Eita

Mukai Osamu

Kato Kazuki

Matsuda Shota

Hayami Mokomichi

Tsumabuki Satoshi

Narimiya Hiroki

Nagase Tomoya

Actresses for Kyoko or Momo (that have NOT been mentioned or at least I haven't seen their picture posted yet)- take your pic, I think they all have good resumes for either roles:

Aoi Yu

Eikura Nana

Kanjiya Shihori

Naka Riisa

Becky (she may not be as pretty but she is definitely funny when she wants to be, lol)

Ishihara Satomi

Aibu Saki

Again, proof? Where is the proof that she can act dark? No one can provide *which* roles she acted that gave this feeling no matter how many times I ask. Say you are convincing a casting director as her manager. Which roles would you point to to say she could act as Mio and Natsu? That she could act these super dark roles and emit auras? Just saying one has a feeling about it isn't good enough in the Japanese industry especially if you've actually read the manga you'll see how difficult it is in Japan to get out of type casting. So you'll need proof.

Do you have more than one?

new nomination:

Taguchi Junnosuke - Dark Moon Director

I've nominated him even though I've only seen him once. He really looks fragile, and beautiful in his role as Bido Granmarie in Yukan Club.
But if you have another more narcisstic and flamboyant character appearing in skip beat, i would like it to be him. (haven't read skip beat manga yet.)

ABout: raynebeauty nominations,

i've seen them all except uchi hiroki, aoi yu, nagase tomoya, tsumabuki satoshi and naka riisa. can't comment on them

Eikura Nana

so yeah i believe she can pull kyouko off too given that most of the requirements in kyouko was fulfilled especially when i saw mei-chan no shitsuji. (Thanks HITSUJI im on ep. 8 now and enjoying it!) except maybe the dark side considering i haven't seen her doing any.
but as moko she can totally do great because in proposal daisakusen she is one good best friend plus in the story she is definitely intimidating.

Becky:

definitely not. how can she pull it off if she looks foreign? i've definitely watched her in nodame sp and i get your point in her being funny but that in itself doesn't cut it.

other suggestions of yours may have received the boons and banes from previous posts and would be troublesome to repeat it or i just don't see anything apecial that would truly shout the character for me- in your case, popular nominations kyouko, ren and sho.

Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003

'go watch it

also why do u need proof? if she hasnt acted a dark role, doesnt mean she cant act it at all/pull it off
if there is a skip beat j drama , and she gets casted, maybe she'll surprise u with a good performance
i think its better if an actress/actor that has never done a certain type of role, then does it and does a great job

Thank you for your comments...and for the "no comments." lol.

FYI - my post is for those who needed a "real face" to go with the names that people may or may not have mentioned. If you've seen most of them, well, good for you...lol. Please feel free to not comment again. haha.

Whether or not they can do the role...well, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I'm just posting some individuals that may have been overlooked and some that might surprise people..anyway, I think variety is important. Personally, I don't care who plays Kyoko, Ren or Sho - so I just grabbed a bunch of pics of random actresses/actors that I've liked in various dramas.
As an avid fan, I'm actually more concerned with the script. For me, the best thing about Skip Beat is the story line.
Also, I'd like to add my vote for the nomination of the director that was in charge of Nodame Cantabile. Great choice!

^
Ric3B4ll - I agree with you. I'm sure Aya could do the part and if she gets chosen, then good for her~
All this funny stuff about "how do we know she can do it" - so tell me how does ANY actor or actress get cast? c'mon peeps, don't pretend to be ignorant, there IS such a thing called an audition (aka "screen test") - just because the public doesn't see those...some of you act like it doesn't exist. Anyway it's not like the director's gonna care about our opinions on this website anyway. In the end, it'll be a majority vote (but of course, the casting director's opinion will have the most weight) - at least thats how it works in hollywood assuming that japan's industry is not that different.

"At first "のだめカンタービレ" was broadcasted as a regular TV drama in 2006 and then broadcasted as special serial dramas for two nights in 2008. The television show のだめカンタービレis finally coming to the big screen! The good news for fans is that two Japanese movies will be shown consecutively for the first time in the history of Japanese movies.
The funniest world, which the duo of Chiaki and Nodame presents, will be back on screen again!!

"のだめカンタービレ THE MOVIE (tentative title)"
Part 1 is scheduled to be released on 2009.12.
Part 2 is scheduled to be released in Spring 2010.
【Original story】 Ninomiya Tomoko
【Director】 Takeuchi Hideki
【Cast】 Tamaki Hiroshi (plays Chiaki Shinichi.)/ Ueno Juri, etc.
*The detailed information will be updated frequently as information is made avilable. "

YAAAAAY!!!!!!

I had to stifle a fan girl scream. *shakes fist* Damn you. Damn you.

But a filled out Tamaki is my first choice for Ren. *.* Kyouko is still damned hard to cast... but what about the other characters besides the main 3?

I just shed a tear of joy. This makes me HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY.

... and speaking of Nodame Cantabile...

YAAAAAY!!!!!!

I had to stifle a fan girl scream. *shakes fist* Damn you. Damn you.

But a filled out Tamaki is my first choice for Ren. *.* Kyouko is still damned hard to cast... but what about the other characters besides the main 3?

I just shed a tear of joy. This makes me HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY.

I know!! I am sooo happy for this... unhappy though that we have to wait until December... and that would be the theatrical release... hopefully someone will sneak in with a cam...

also... on the Nodame news front ... the manga is back on!! wooohooo!!!!!!
"The manga went on hiatus in Japan in 2008 due to Ninomiya's carpal tunnel syndrome, but returned to irregular serialization starting on 10 March 2009." ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nodame_Cantabile ) ...and that was referenced from ANN ( http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-02-10/nodame-ninomiya-to-return-to-kiss-magazine-in-march )

JOY! ...so maybe if the story continues, there will be more for Tamaki to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! another few seasons!! or specials!!
