An RPG without levels?
Posted 2/21/09 , edited 2/21/09
Have you ever think what it would feel like if RPGs don't have levels? Well, to me it's worth a try. Many RPGs will does have level to increase stats and limitation(limitation is, for an example, that you need to be level 10 to equip weapon). I perfer, at least, one more RPG that has no level at all. It would be great to have levels, but training and training for experience points for hours are not worth it.

How about trying a game that allow you to get XP but you can use those XP to your use? If anyone here plays Fable or Fable 2 will understand this. I mean you can be whatever you want. You don't have to choose a class from the beginning. You can be a Guardian, Brawler, Assassin, or any classes without any job changes in a few minutes. You don't need cloth level just to wear cloths. Just think how fun it will be without levels holding you back.

Of course, many people will not agree with me. They will say levels are sometimes worth it. Too much freedom can be too boring. There has to be a way to limit that freedom and that is where levels jumps in.Many people also perfer to fight monsters for XP than just lay on their back and do nothing.

Well, I perfer no level at all. How about you? Are you with me or against me? Think about it and reply okay?

Actually I think that might be fun. It would depend all on gear but it would be relaxing to not have to bust my ass grinding out lvls though. I'm with you though it should be introduced to the gaming community. Who knows maybe it would pick up.

I like levels! I like knowing mathematically that I have a chance against a certain enemy. The only thing that ever makes me want to put down an RPG is when I spend days leveling up my guys, spending an hour going through a dungeon and die fighting a boss, only to realize that I should have leveled up my guys a couple more times... A necessary pain...

Chrono cross is the only rpg i played before that don't actually have lvls individually. I personally love lvls and xp because higher lvls, more skills, such as star lvls in chrono cross equals more element grid plus thier skills and combination skills. And i never played a rpg where i had to grind out lvls to win, the lvls always came naturally because all the random battle i get through traveling.

Isn't a RPG a "Role-Playing Game" not one with levels and such?

I mean, games like The Elder Scrolls doesn't really have exp (sort of) and Final Fantasy II didn't have any also, and relied on "do something more, and you'll get better at it" kind of thing.

Chrono Cross did away with experience and levels, with stats having a chance to increase after battles instead.

That would be a horrible RPG because half the fun is going to low level areas and having newbies beg for money while you say "NO!" and crush their newbish dreams.

EDIT: Also, I wouldn't be able to trade ingame gold for RL nekkid pics of lower level hotties.
