I think it depends on the game. It's pretty obvious also that the gaming market markets towards older players as well, so it's not something for just children, as if you look at games like Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, God of War etc.. they are far from childish. As for saying they need to "grow up" - sounds like someone who is jealous of less time spent.. now yes, excessive gaming can be bad, it's wrong way to say they need to 'grow up'

The effects aren't all positive, though. Alongside enhanced logic skills and hand-eye coordination, we also get addiction. mental degradation, and even epilepsi..
Still, i don't care. I LOVE gaming. |

Childlish? never!!
I went and found some old games (many made rather for kids) that used to play, and found them amusing (for a few hours), although that was mostly for all the memories I had.. I've started university this year, and I had to drop gaming time because of all the work, and other activities... and I prefer saving my money for stuff I enjoy more. I agree with people who say that experiences in life are better than the ones in games, first because they are real, and indeed younger people tend to play more games, though that's probably due to the extra free time. But, I believe that our dreams and imagination are just as important. life is great, alright, but what's the problem with putting it aside for a while and enjoy something that you can't in real life? In the end, the reason we do all those is because we enjoy doing them. What is childish about doing something you enjoy? Games are addictive? there qre some bad side effects?... well, I think it's safe to say that we ALL are MORTALLY addicted to water... and need a regular dose each day... and many car accidents are due to driking too much alcohol... Oh yeah, there are also thousands of people dying each year of overdose of SALT.... then again, used moderately in our daily lives, it doesn't have any bad effects.. games are the same thing.. to be used moderately |

<-- that thing is often mistaken... not as online as it appears....

Grand theft Auto is far from childish. Well maybe if you own a Wii or a Gamecube it is a bit chidlish because both of those are kiddy systems.

I think that people that accuse people who play video/computer games as engaging in a childish activity or the gamer them self being childish purely for this reason, are one of three things...
1) Ignorant and confused as to what exactly gaming is...There are many different types of video and computer games, many different types of gamers, and many different types of gaming. Video and computer gaming is no more childish than going to the movies or watching television. In fact that you could say that it is far more beneficial to game than it is to do either of those activities. Granted, gaming might not be the best all around form of entertainment, as like with television and movies it promotes physical inactivity, but gaming often can be a very beneficial mental exercise, hand/eye coordination and dexterity exercise, and even with some games a social exercise... 2) Detractors could also be complete prejudiced morons who believe what they want to believe because it helps them justify their own pathetic existences by placing others beneath themselves... 3) They could be the spawn of Jack Thompson, ie "The Devil," Satan, Lucifer ---> You get the idea... For those of you who don't know who Jack Thompson is... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Thompson_(attorney) ![]() |
