A Shock for Aoi? | 2009.02.11

Signs of a possible rift between acting couple Miyazaki Aoi (23) and Takaoka Sosuke (27). According to tomorrow's edition of weekly magazine "Josei Seven," Takaoka was recently spotted spending several hours at the Tokyo apartment of young pin-up idol Kinbara Asuka (19). The pair were seen holding hands as the entered the building, after she had attended a birthday party for the actor last Friday and he accompanied her home by taxi. He was seen leaving the building about three hours later, though Kinbara's management agency insisted he only saw her as far as the front door. Miyazaki is reported not to have attended her husband's party. But she said at a PR event for her latest movie yesterday that she knows all about the story and insisted that everything is fine. The couple have been married about a year and a half.

Aoi Miyazaki gets zany on the set of ‘Shonen Merikensack’ | 2008.06.09

2009 Movie - Brass Knuckle Boys / The Shonen Merikensack

The makers of Shonen Merikensack, the rock ‘n’ roll comedy which I wrote more in-depth about here recently released a clip of Aoi Miyazaki filming some scenes. It’s not very long but you can definitely tell she’s fitting right in with the comedic pacing of director Kankuro Kudo, screenwriter of “Ping Pong” and “Maiko Haaaan!!!”.

Miyazaki first caught everyone’s attention by playing hard-luck kids from dysfunctional families in films like Eureka and Harmful Insect, but has since expanded her repertoire considerably and continues to show off her acting chops. Earlier this year she even played 2 roles in the same movie. Now with Kudo’s help she’ll be adding spaz-out comedy to her resume. Check out the clip below and see how she’s doing so far.

[TIFF 2008 Press Conference] The Shonen Merikensack (少年メリケンサック) | 2008.10.19

It was a toss up between watching Kill and Shonen Merikensack, but I had decided upon the former for the press screening, and the latter for the public one, but alas it was sold out, so the only consolation I got out of it was to be able to cover the press conference, since iti happened at the same time as the screening. Going by the looks of things, I think it's a no-brainer that I'll get the DVD to watch the movie once it's released, given that it sounds like a lot of fun. The director and cast came directly from the stage greeting with the audience, and almost everyone were in unison in their introduction to the film, which they were honoured to be a part of, and more importantly, the movie has a very feel good element about it, where Kiuura said one will feel energized by it, and Katsuji confirms that everyone will feel positive after seeing the film.

Q1: How difficult was it for you to juggle both your TV role in Atsuhime and the making of this film, since both was done at the same time?
Aoi Miyazaki (AM): I don't have to think too much about creating a role, as the makeup and wardrobe for each is different, and I become the character, such as I'm Princess Atsuhime when I put on my kimono and wig. I love the support that I have around me to help create these roles.

Q2: You're surrounded by a cast of middle aged men. How did it feel like to work with them?
AM: Everyone was kind to me, and the small cosy set also helped to create a comfortable atmosphere to work in.

As I hadn't watched Shonen Merinkensack, I couldn't grasp the presumably hilarious explanation that Yuichi Kimura had for his wardrobe in the movie, which consisted of a shirt and a kilt like skirt.

Q3: Do you like punk rock, given that you're too young to have lived in the punk rock era?
Kankuro Kudo (KK): I'm actually 38. When I was in middle school, punk rock had already come to Japan. There is only one other Japanese punk rock movie which was made some time ago, and my interest would be to explore what happened to the fans of punk rock, what would they be doing and have they managed to fit into society now? I'm sure there's something positive out of this wildness.

Q4: You've worked in various media. What is the thing that makes film different?
KK: Directing a film is different from directing for the stage or television, because I can't take things too lightly, as the logistics behind it is tremendous. In preparation for a film, many people are involved, and there is a sense of satisfaction when things go right. You take more time to do it, and you become attached to the work, and finally bringing people together when screened.

Q5: When I look at the poster behind you, it was really a pop kind of image!
KK: I told her to be pop, that's why! (laughter)
AM: It's really the director telling me to do that!

Q6: What do you think of the band members' performance?
AM: As their screen manager, I'd say “Yes, go for it!!” I was so happy to see them look really cool.

Aoi Miyazaki leaves home…! | 2009.02.25

I haven’t written one of these j-ent / gossip posts in a while…generally I’m not interested but this article caught my eye.

Aoi Miyazaki.

Surely you have heard of this name before? She is a rising star in the Japanese world of movies and dramas.

I’m sure you have seen news of her husband (yes! she’s married and she’s only 23!!) caught cheating behind her back. Apparently, she is sick and tired of his ways (not the first time he’s cheated but first time it’s caught on camera) and has moved back home. Rumour is that their marriage was not going well to start with. The guy has temper issues and once angered would throw things around the house (geez…doesn’t that sound a bit cliche?). In the meantime, the guy is trying to reassure the media that all is going well with Aoi.

If you ask me, Aoi should just give him a kick up his ass and move on! Sounds like a loser!

I’ve never been a big fan of hers but her more recent works have made me re-focus my attention. She somehow has this way of making me going ‘WOW’ in her movies ALL the time!? haha It could be the skill of the director and storyline though. =) Anyway, her style is growing on me. I like her intellectual elegant kind of look. Nice.

Entertainment Idle Gossip - Miyazaki Aoi | 2009.04.18

I found a nice little article on cyzo woman about Miyazaki Aoi and her cheating husband. The following stuff is no "news article" or anything like that, it's only two women who share their opinion about the still on-going topic. However, they are not just some random woman who know nothing about the industry. We have Shie-chan, the actual manager of cyzo woman and Ei-chan of "Woman eXcite".

I think it's kinda fun to read and a bit of a change to all the normal news article.

Miyazaki Aoi and her unfaithful husband, only a matter of time until the divorce?

Ei-chan: Did you know? That gravure idol Miyazaki Aoi's husband was reported to have an affair with in February, she actually retired.

Shie-chan: Ah, you mean Kinbara Asuka. Takaoka Shousuke was spotted holding hands with her as they entered her apartment (Photo in Josei Seven). He spent 3 hours late at night in her apartment, but Kinbara commented, "I only gave him water at the entrance". Did it really take 3 hours to drink that water? Really strange~

Ei-chan: Yeah, really strange...

Shie-chan: Sundai Yobi Gakkou had Kinbara on their ad posters and they recovered all of them after the reports about the adultery. It seems like her agency had to pay them a large sum of indemnities as well. Her manager got fired, too. Wouldn't that be a bit too much for just a kind cup of water? (laughs)

Ei-chan: But is Aoi's husband the one to blame? I don't believe someone could cheat a wife like her, the extremely popular actress from the historical NHK dorama. How is Takaoka himself doing as an actor?

Shie-chan: In 2005 he appeared as Sawajiri Erika's older brother in "Pacchigi!", he recently had a role in the dorama "ROOKIES" as well as in the movie "Crows Zero II". However, he's far below the level of Aoi-chan. Due to his roles, he got a really strong image of the bad guy. According to "Shukan Bunshun" (4/16), 'he's actually been famous for his notoriety ever since junior high school.'

Ei-chan: Why is Aoi together with such a man...

Shie-chan: They met around the time when Aoi-chan was 14 and Takaoka 18 years old. A common friend introduced them to each other and they immediately started a friendship. He basically was/is Aoi-chan's first love. Later, after 7 years of just friendship they eventually married. During the entry in the family register, Takaoka made a very modest comment. "I'm still very inexperienced and from the standpoint of our work, she much higher than I am." However, it's really awful that after more than 2 years he still only gets referred to as "Aoi-chan's husband".

Ei-chan: But that's still no reason to cheat on her! (angry)

Shie-chan: Well, this man actually seems to have more problems than just his unfaithfulness.

Ei-chan: Eh? Like what?

Shie-chan: Very bad domestic violence. Normally he's calm, but then he suddenly starts to kick things and uses abusive language like, "Shut up! Why are you talking like that!?" It's never going too far, but still...

Ei-chan: How terrible! I wish they would break up soon!

Shie-chan: It's only a matter of time, actually. According to "Shukan Gendai" (4/25), a higher up of Aoi-chan's agency expressed his grief and commented, "I hope they will break up soon." Aoi-chan herself even said, "Everyone is telling me to break up with him and that he won't return to the gentleman he once was when we met... ." All her close friends are suggesting her to divorce him already.

Ei-chan: National famous actress divorced at the age of 23...
