Her fault she can't text properly without getting caught.

Also what ever happened to taking the phone away as punishment? At least have the student pay to get it back. My school does that.

The student is an idiot and deserves to be punished. You're at school to learn, not bloody sending messages to friends.

Deserves to be punished? So if you ignore a red light when walking in traffic, or tosses garbage on the streets, you deserve to be punished as well? So how about if you pick your nose then, or forget the toilet seat? Or perhaps if you sneeze? Surely that's bad enough to deserve punishnent as well, right?

Let me ask you this simple question.

Why are you at school?

Edit:

And to clarify, I never said what kind of punishment.

You don't have to talk down to me like I'm some kinda lesser intelligent being, odds are I'm not. It's not your problem or my teachers problem if I don't care for paying attention, and I don't deserve any more punishment for that, than the punishment I'm already recieving by not paying attention and decreasing my chances for succes later on.

The first two offenses are worse than the ones you posted after. Of course you should be punished for littering and jaywalking. But for texting it shouldn't have been as bad as to be arrested. Now that's just dumb.

I think my examples pretty clearly shows a pattern of non-harmful offenses which doesn't deserve punishment, as well as raises the question, "how low should we go?" ...that something is wrong, doesn't equal that it deserves to be punished.

I'm not talking down to you. I'm trying to make you see things from my perspective. I've never seen you as some kind of less intelligent being, because you don't deserve that.

This is about respect, and the girl that was using her phone didn't have any respect for the teacher at all. How would you feel if you were trying to teach someone something, and the person decides that her phone is more interesting? If it was me trying to teach, I'd either just stop up, sit down and say that unless everyone is willing to pay attention, nothing more will be said. That, or I'd confiscated the phone. The girl could have had it back at the end of the school day.

People are too lax when it comes to taking school, studying and teachers serious.

I'd like to add that, the examples you gave - that you claim are harmless, can carry more consequences that you seem to realise.

Littering can lead to bacteria spree of the bad kind, garbage getting spread and polluting the area. Going when it is a red traffic light can be dangerous to your own life and others.
