I think EDSA 1 is not the mistake (it deposed a very corrupt president), but the person who replaced him is the mistake. Has Cory Aquino done anything good to this country? Has anything been done to the Marcoses? Has our foreign dept (caused by Marcos) been paid?

I sometimes asked myself this question, "Do they think that because Cory Aquino is Ninoy's wife she already inherited her husbands knowledge/desire to lead the country?" Look at what she'd done to the farmers of Hacienda Sta. Lucia (a property of the Aquino's). She even freed the leader of the communist party of the Philippines back when she's president.

In short, Cory Aquino is, was and always a mistake. Sorry if I sound like a sexist but I haven't found a female leader that amusing and effective in running a country, especially Gloria Arroyo.

-puts on Wiki mask-

The EDSA Revolution may refer to three events in Philippine history referring to popular political upheavals occurring in the EDSA highway:

1. People Power Revolution of 1986 that toppled the administration of Ferdinand Marcos after allegations of widespread cheating in the 1986 presidential elections.

2. EDSA Revolution of 2001 that toppled the administration of Joseph Estrada after an aborted impeachment trial where prosecutors walked out after failing on a motion.

3. 2001's EDSA III that climaxed in the siege of the presidential palace while Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo remaining in office after the arrest of Joseph Estrada.

Does it ring a bell?

Well for me in my opinion, I think it was a mistake. I think the Philippines would be better off in martial law or being governed in an iron hand. Well look at the state of our country right now, there is corruption, poverty, terrorism in Mindanao, protests, economic meltdown, impeachment hearings that never end and bickering over at the Senate. There is unrest in our country. If EDSA 1 didn't happen, Marcos didn't get sick, we would have no corruption, less poverty, less crime, no rebels, a great economy. Let's say Marcos didn't steal money from the government we would less of these problems we have in our country. There is no such thing as absolute freedom. Those people like Cory Aquino and the other EDSA protesters emphasize when they took to the streets in 1986. There is not much significance to EDSA 1 anymore. It didn't bring much hope to our country after 23 years. People Power Revolution isn't the solution to our problems in our country. I think we should help each other as a nation to improve our country.

So that's my opinion. What's yours I'd like to know. If there is another thread like this please remove it then.

really dunno much about philippine history but i had it like a couple of years ago and i think either way, it won't make any difference.
as what my foreign filipino class had discussed and as what my teacher had said, during marcus' era, there were a lot of biases and unfair treatments too..there was almost no freedom and marcus had most of the country's wealth.
today, philippines has got freedom just like most countries..however, most Filipinos just do not know how to control.
hows that for a beginner? lol

i don't thnk it was a mistake.
try to imagine if u were the one on their shoes at that time
ahh. living w/o your freedom, the terror. .

@those people who don't know edsa 1
try not to get involved at this thread especially if you were
just going to say non-sense things.
It's one of the treasured historical event of filipino people so don't make fun of it.

Mindanao ~ 35% of the population are Muslims

How ironic.

Meh, most revolutions don't really make anything better. In most cases it's a revolution based on rather naive views about an idealistic change which will sadly never meet the people's expectations.

And yeah, I'll presume that most people don't even really know what EDSA1 is so I'll post a link to it just for the sake of it:

Hmmm.... don't really know what to say about it... I mean... I was still not yet born when EDSA 1 happens...

I don't really know actually... but all I can say is that true that Philippines did prosper at that time...
though I really don't know how big it is... and then there's also discipline everywhere...
but still... corruption existed at that time and is still existing right now! I mean...

If we really want to change for the good... we should start doing it first in ourselves!
