Question, if one were to loss their memory, would they loss their urges/desires/habits?

If so, do you think that by using memory erasing technique against drug/sex addicts, they would loss their desires?

If not, please state as to why such an occurrence might not happen.

I personally think if one were to erase their memory to surpass their urges, they'd be running away which would not result in any rehabilitation.

If you lose your memory, there's a chance of gaining it back.

Of course, you will probably forget your desires also though I hope that you remember it soon enough or they'll just vanish into thin minds >.<"

Your urges, habits, and desires are natural instincts in my opinion. If you would lose your memories, there would probably some possibilities that your vices will be kept. Tis like not knowing yourself or what happened but when you see something you like, you'd go for it.

Maybe it would affect my desires the most.

I think not, because desires and sex addiction are instinctive. No one taught you to like this type or boy/girl, no one taught you how feel in love, no one taught you how to have sexual desires. That's why I think those things are instinctive and memory loss will not affect it in any way.

Memory loss? Such as Retrograde Amnesia? Nope. The loss is caused by trauma that is resulted in brain injury, specifically damaging the hippocampus. While desires and habits are instinctively inborn ever since birth.

I could go on... but it's really boring.

But the answer is No.

Drug and sex addicts would not lose it because its a bodily addiction. They may not know what they want but they want it.

lechery already said the psychological explanation.

desires comes mostly from the unconscious (S. Fraud); and unconsciousness doesnt have any necessary connection between memory. in fact, memory comes mostly from the conscious.

I'd hate to lose my memories,
because I'd probably make the same mistakes again,
which is something I don't wanna do xD

Yes.

But I doubt they would lose their personality.

A person who's generally a cheerful optomist may lose their memory and forget they wanted to be a realtor in the future, but they probably won't lose their general attitude towards life.

A friend of mine suffered a near fatal accident with slight head trauma. Although she suffered a little memory loss, when she came out of it, although her personality was generally the same, her interests and goals completely changed. She not only switched majors in college but took and entirely different direction in life.
