Haha, fair enough. I'm part of the crowd that thinks idols and the whole pop factory thing should just disappear because they're polluting music, but to each his own. That's just my opinion.

I see how this conversation connects now. Cool.

Overall, this thread topic seems pretty inane because it's making vast generalizations. I know a lot of non-Asians who love Korean dramas and music. I personally prefer Japanese music, I don't think it's too straight and non-rhythmicy. I actually feel the opposite. At least in comparison to Chinese music, Japanese music flows a lot better. Additionally, I don't really listen to Korean music because most of it is pop/hip-hop/R&B, which I don't like at all.

haha, to me, everyone is entitled to his or her own music. be it bad or good. no, wait. music cant be categorised into bad or good. it's good to some and bad to some, always.
peace!
ps. it's nice having this kinda more constructive convo with you here. =)

lol so true

I think the statement is false. What a lot of Asia is interested in is not the culture of Korea, more like what their entertainment industry has to offer.
Their economy is not that strong at all compared to Japan or China and they don't really have much going for them either than their entertainment. <---- I'm not too sure about the economy part, since I heard it from a conversation.
Who here actually knows anything about their culture either than what they know from drama depictions and other forms of entertainment?

I still think most of asians are either interested in their own culture, western culture or Japan and China.
Who here actually knows about the history of Korea and whatnots?
Japan has their rich culture that a lot of people are learning like the ways of Samurai, tea ceremonies and all the other things.
Chine has their rich history of the many ages and dynasties.
When talking about Korea, most that would come out is their latest drama, the hottest group of singers, how goodlooking they are, nothing about their culture or history.

Uhm. I think their dramas are much more creative. I mean it really touches you.

Korea is one smart country. Not only does it try hard to keep it's culture from being changed by any outsiders(an example can be the Hankyung performance contraversey that happened a few years back),but they also spread it to other different countries like Japan and Malaysia. And they are GOOD at it too.

Thailand kept changing on who they crazed about...
I should know because since I was born it was Chinese --> Japanese --> halfies --> Korean.
The last time I went back there everyone were like 'you look so Korean'
and I was just like 'huh?'

I think they are all good really.

Because Asian's are the ones who would mostly appreciate and understand the values/tradition/morals/etc...that is being told in music, dramas, etc...

Besides, other than this big culture craze, Korea (both N. and S.), have absolutely nothing else going for them.

Almost EVERYTHING falls under the "culture" umbrella, so your "have absolutely nothing else going for them" remark was utter uselessness.

Which is exactly why I HATE and shy AWAY from the Korean entertainment. Foreign artists aren't allowed to do many things there. The K Industry is very closed minded when it comes to other country's artists debuted in their country compared to Japan's or Taiwan's industry.

Which is why a while back when I heard some DBSK fans complaining about Japan being racists towards them, I thought what about Korea, no non korean artist who be able to overcome as much as they did b/c Korea's industry is too closed minded

This is one of the main reasons(other than DBSK and BoA) I like the Japanese and Taiwanese industry better than the Korean one.

Ever heard of 'crazy fangirls'? *ehem*
Anyway, I like Korean music as well, BUT.
Look at those Koreans. Their looks make them popular.
Well, will you listen to a song if the artist was ugly?
Will you watch a drama if the leads were ugly?
Frankly,no. IMO.
