We don't have mice here, at least not that I've ever needed to get rid of them. D: But I bet my dad would poison them.

I used to have mice/rats in my house...because when you don't kill rodents or roaches, they multiply.
It was SO F*CKING DISGUSTING!!

They are my one fear, so I was always afraid to be up at night; just hearing them made my skin crawl
The only time I can actually look at a rat/mouse is when it's down in the train tracks, away from me!

My grandmother - She was so damn brave. One time a mouse/rat climbed up the curtains, and she strangled it to death.

Snap traps are kinda mean... Lol.

Oh the absolute irony. And you think glue traps aren't? They're worse than snap traps.

In fact, I'm surprised so many people nominate glue traps. Are you people mentally defunct?

and if people think I'm creepy....so wat? I <3 animals....well, some of them are not
the animals that many people don't like....many people think im creepy, but you can't change me for who I am...

Anyone who thinks you're creepy for liking animals are ignorant fools.

I'd say the people who use glue traps, throw them into the bin, and let the mice starve are far more creepy than you'll ever be.

I don't criticise people for dealing with and killing mice, but I will criticise the use of the glue traps.

There are many ways to kill animals. Letting them rip their skin apart while they gnaw their legs off and starve to death should not be one of them. To even insist on such a fate is sub-human.

It's a crime in my state to even use them, and for good reason too. That glue traps outnumber snap traps on this poll is based on shameful and ignorant behaviour. You don't torture the animal to death; you either kill it in a quick manner or catch and release. Anything else is irresponsible.

So for the people who use glue traps: you suck. And I hope one day you're in the same position as the mouse you glue trapped. Just think of the pain it must go through... I mean, if someone were to kill you and you had no choice of living, wouldn't you rather have it ended quickly? Especially if you are in a lot of pain?

Seems that moral conscience is a rarity these days.

In addition, here's an interesting study cited by a governmental department that had the research done on these traps:

http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/animal-welfare/policy/papers/glueboards/index.htm

"In testing, of 40 mice placed on two brands of glueboard, 35 survived for 24 hours attached to the board. At various stages during this period, most animals:

struggled vigorously when initially placed on the glueboard. In an apparent attempt to free themselves, animals stretched, twisted, and pulled on body parts caught in the glue; some mice bit and chewed on strands of adhesive or on their hair embedded in the adhesive. This action often resulted in additional body parts becoming embedded in the glue…(and)…as a result of struggling, patches of hair were sometimes pulled out of the body or limbs, exposing bare, raw patches of skin; legs were sometimes broken by vigorous struggling.

Normal eye condition lasted for about 1 h in most animals. Pathological conditions developed…(and)…sometimes progressed…so that the eye and eyelids became covered with a thick, gelatinous exudate which, in its severest state, was milky white and could not be removed by blinking the eye.

These reported reactions indicate a significant amount of distress and pain over a prolonged period. As further indication of distress, the study reports that:

Within 3-5 h after capture, most of the animals showed heavy defecation and urination…(and)…by 24 h, the wastes were often smeared over much of a mouse’s body."

The source of the italicised bits come from:

Frantz, S.C. and C.M. Padula (1983). "A Laboratory Test Method for Evaluation the Efficacy of Glueboards for Trapping House Mice". Vertebrate Pest Control and Management Materials: Fourth Symposium, ASTM STP 817, D E Kaukinen Ed., American Society for Testing and Materials, Philadelphia.

Based on the above information, I am very well justified sitting on my ivory tower. Glue traps can be summed up in one word: torture. Anyone who use them should be ashamed, and dragged through mud. It is what they deserve.
