Takaki Yuya

It’s been a year since the debut. That year has been really amazing. I’ve been able to experience a lot of different things. For example, the drama, “Gokusen,” and “SUMMARY 2008,” was two events that were very important to me. Both required long, hard hours, and with our other work as volleyball’s special supporter, those 3 things, the special supporter, drama, and concert both were extremely hard, but that hardness was amazing. There were days where I couldn’t sleep, I was surprised myself (laughs).

Hey! Say! JUMP also released our 3rd single. I was very happy about that. Whatever the hard schedule, the members, the fans, and the staff people all felt as if they had my back, and I believe that we combined all our strengths to make it here. I am grateful.

Also, I have a good story. It was really good timing; yesterday (November 30th) was Chinen's birthday, and then tomorrow (December 2nd) is the day Hikaru-kun was fortunate enough to be born on (laughs). Those two people were born, and both became part of HSJ, I think that’s a good story. I think a lot about other members, ne. Shoot! I have to give them a present! (laughs)

What I want to ‘catch’ right now, is talent. I want to try a instrument. What I’m trying to play is a secret. But when I can fluently play, I’ll tell you what it is. Oh, and also, at the end-of-the-year concert, all the members who can play the instrument has an instrument corner. All I do is sing (laughs). Be excited for my singing too!

Yabu Kota

A year since Hey! Say! JUMP debuted. This one year went by very fast. We did a lot of concerts, we released 3 singles. In that, we participate in “SUMMARY 2008” for a month, and the fact that we were the main and stood on that stage has a really big meaning for us. Didn’t it feel different than a normal concert? You can see our normal selves during a concert, so we can do the MC’s really calmly (laughs), but “SUMMARY 2008” has a SHOW-ish impression to it. Anyway, the customers came for entertainment, so that’s what we gave them. But I believe that one experience ultimately got HSJ together.

The winter concert wrapped up 2008, it was really fun, and it was also the start of a new year, so it was big. It has both the meanings of the end and the start. It felt as if we were saying, “Hey! Let’s do our best for another year!” If I can correctly predict our growth, I’ll promise you an amazing concert, so be excited for it!

A good story that happen lately was… going to a bathhouse with my friends (laughs). No a health spa, but a place where all those old women and men gather around, that sort of old-building area, we, for some reason, went there. We went into the bath like normal grandpas, and after bath, I raced my friends with chugging coffee milk (laughs). I remember when coffee milk was served for lunch.

What I want to ‘catch’ is… (Suddenly starts reading other member’s papers). I can catch all of theirs (laughs). I want some medicine that is really good for your throat. Oh, sorry. The thing I want to ‘catch’ is a thing (laughs).

Chinen Yuuri

I think I’ve been able to experience a lot of new things. The drama, “Scarp Teacher”’s location had a really fun atmosphere to it, so when it ended, I was really sad. I hear a lot that multi-episode-drama are really hard, but for me, unexpectedly, I was really energetic, and I didn’t get tired at all (laughs). I think the fact that the other members were around had a big impact. Also, all the staff and the ‘teachers’ also took care of me really well during the drama, and I was really happy. I was able to shoot it in a very relaxed state.

As a whole, Hey! Say! JUMP is doing an end-of-the-year concert. This time, us ourselves made different choices, and this was the first time the member’s all participated, so this time, I want you to all take a look as a whole. Definitely, us working independently has its hardship. Not only do we have to make the concert really fun, we have to send our message clearly. On top of that, all the members have different messages to the fans, so bundling them all up and expertly throwing them at the fans is definitely going to be hard. I’m sorta relying on the older-brother team there (laughs). Anyway, just be excited for it!

A good story that happened lately… My birthday (November 30th) was during the drama shoot, but all the cast members and tehe staff congratulated me. All of a sudden, the staff people said, “Today’s Chinen-kun’s birthday!” It was my first time being warmly congratulated by a lot of people, so I got a little shy, but I’m very thankful to all those people.

What I want to ‘catch’ now is, like all the members of Arashi-san, they’re on the TV all the time, even if you randomly turn on your TV, so I want Hey! Say! JUMP to be like that. I also want to do an overseas concert a lot… But I’ll probably get nervous memorizing the country’s words and speaking them (laughs).

Nakajima Yuto

It’s been a year since our debut! It was really fun, studying one year. Especially on the location of “Scrap Teacher” I was surrounded by really funny senpai’s, and, of course, studied ‘noritsukkomi’ (TN: a type of gag… in a way) (laughs). There were a lot of things to do, I was doing a lot of good stuff, it was a great 2008. For Hey! Say! JUMP, “SUMMARY 2008” was definitely a big thing. SMAP-san came to see us one day… I was really nervous that day (laughs). But that was good nervousness, and I also felt a lot of teamwork in those days.

For the winter concert, first off, be very scared of the stage set! (laughs) TV was the theme, and (when you go into the stadium) find your seat, you’ll be like, “… Eh?” You’ll definitely look around twice, you’ll be very surprised (laughs). Also, there’s an instrument-corner so be excited for that.

A good story that happened lately… I saw a really funny/weird person! When I was heading to the drama location, I saw a guy who was wearing ridiculously big headphones waiting for the train. And then, when a train came into the opposite platform, the guy next to me started tapping his feet. His tapping rhythm was perfectly in line with the train’s “gatan, goton” (TN: The sound that the train makes” (laughs). He kept on doing that! When the train slowed down, he would slow down too~! It’s bad (laughs). He probably loves trains, ne.

What I want to ‘catch’ fron now on. Like Keito, I want to have like a lot of knowledge. Aaa look (laughs), I’m so jealous of his knowledgeness. Also, I want to try horseback riding!

Arioka Daiki

Hey! Say! JUMP already debuted for a year huh… There were a lot of things to do, so this year went by really fast. But if it was a really dull year, I’ll be like, “It’s only been a year!?” and it’ll feel really weird (laughs). Anyway, we sprinted throughout 2008, but we can run even more. For me, “SUMMARY 2008” and my drama role stand out in my mind. All 10 of us flew in “SUMMARY 2008”, but when I first participated in the summary, I got goosebumps all over, I remember really clearly. Also, I have a stong memory about our first Tokyo Dome concert. That moment when the member’s names and faces projected up onto that big screen! The fans reactions to our concert is one thing I can never forget. For “Scrap Teacher,” I felt as if I grew on my own. The power from the other actors around me were really strong, and we were working together a lot of the times. I want to try ren-dora (multi-episode dramas) and I also want to try a movie.

Right now, I’m focusing a lot of attention towards the end-of-the-year concert. This time, the clear theme is “TV,” so we’ll give you an awesome show! We also have in mind to challenge comedic parts of the concert. We’re aiming for Kanjani 8-san! (laughs)

A good story- Hikaru-kun’s mother sent us fresh rice, and the rice was amazing! Just by eating one bite, I said, “This rice, it’s different from the normal kind!” It was that good, I could taste the difference. (“Oh yeah. That rice’s expiration date was coming near, and we didn’t know what to do with it, so we just gave it to you (laughs)” by Hikaru) Oyoyoyoy! It won’t become a good story then! (laughs) But it was really good.

What I want to “catch” is to form a group that young, old, male, or female can love. To do that, I think each member individually should go all over to find their interests. So for me, I’ll try my hardest!

Inoo Kei

For Hey! Say! JUMP, 2008 was the first year we spent together, and I had a lot of hands-on experience that I’ve never got to do, I’ve learned so much from just one year. What I really remember is “SUMMARY 2008” and also, our Beijing Olympic special volleyball supporter live-show. Not only was it live, we all had to think of our own comments, so at first, I was extremely nervous, but when the volleyball matches began to pile up, my nervousness started to disappear, and I felt as if my comments were becoming better.

For our concert, we’re going to Nagoya for the first time. So for the MC, I want to speak the dialect they speak there, and the fans reactions from Nagoya will be different from Tokyo’s, so I’m actually excited to see that. But I’ll definitely be nervous (laughs).

A good story- A horrible yet good experience (laughs). This was the first time this has ever happened to me before, but I noticed that I didn’t have any money in my wallet (laughs). I only had 300-400 Yen (TN: about $3-4.) That was barely just enough money to get me home! I was really surprised. When I got onto the train, I thought, “Shoot. I gotta charge (TN: I gotta go eat),” and I opened my wallet, but there are no bills, and when I looked at the loose change… “That’s it!?” I was very very surprised! (laughs). So I had to ask Hikaru, and he got me ramen. He’s really nice, ne~.

What I want to “catch” is, the money for a train ticket!... I’m kidding (laughs). Personality. I want to become more adult-like. I feel as if I’m aware of my surroundings, but I’m still spoiled by my parents sometimes, so I want to become useful. But anyways, I want to make foods by myself (laughs). But sometimes, I make my own food. I made carbonela (pasta). I heard it was hard, but when I was randomly researching about it and when I made it, I succeeded!

Yaotome Hikaru

A live show, a concert… There were a lot of things that I’ve experienced for the first time in 2008. Especially in “SUMMARY 2008”, we got to show our butai (play) skills, it was a really important experience. Every year, it feels as if summer is that time of year where we take little steps = our growth. We were working on “SUMMARY 2008” for a strict one month, so during that time, I think Hey! Say! JUMP progressed a lot. Since we were under a tent all the time, we couldn’t enjoy the beach or the firework displays (laughs). But what we all loved about “SUMMARY 2008” was that feeling of, “I want to go somewhere~!” was weird in a way. (During the concert), a shaved-ice minishop came to us, and we all ate it. It was just before the concert started, but everybody’s tongues were blue, or yellow, or red (laughs). Everybody, what did you do before the concert started? Something like that (laughs). We all agreed to, “ On the stage, you cannot laugh!” and that’s probably my ‘good story’ to tell you (laughs).

For the end-of-the-year concert, a normal fan won’t be able to see the behind-the-scenes of a TV show, but we’re planning to bring that to the stage. It’s the same feel as a normal concert, so let’s get excited! I myself am making more new songs, and all the other members say, “Like that.” We all put our own opinions out there and make a song. That song is our ending song, so watch out for it.

What I want to “catch” is- I play the base, but my friend who started playing after me is starting to catch up, so I want to burn faster (laughs). I want to become much much better at playing. Also, I’m in the midst of practicing the harmoica!

Morimoto Ryutaro

It’s been a year since Hey! Say! JUMP debuted, and all the experiences that I had were really fun. The concert that I wanted to do for a long time at my hometown was amazing. That hometown’s atmosphere completely changed. I still remember Osaka’s concert very well, the way that they react is really different from the way Tokyo fans react. Every fan of Osaka is really hot (TN: As in really energetic, enthusiastic) (laughs). Of course, Tokyo fans are hot as well, but Osaka really surpassed. For the end-of-the-year concert, I hope to enjoy it to the full.

For the Winter Concert, the member’s personalities really shine. For me, I really want to do a really cool dance performance, so I made a whole list of dances that I would like to do. In the middle, it just came to me… I’ll show you a really cool performance!

A good story lately- I’m part of a regular of the TV show, “Showa Heisei,” but I’m kinda slow on a lot of stuff (laughs) so the Father (TN: Sorry I don’t know how to read his name) always talks to me. One day, the father and the TV producer were talking about something, and when the father left, the producer called me. The first thing he said to me was, “The father said that, “Ryutaro’s slowness is getting really good.”” I had totally not expected that, and on top of being really surprised, I was really happy, I was moved! (TN: So the slowness might have another translation, since I have no idea why Ryutaro would be so happy about being called slow…)

From now on, I would love to “catch” a lot of different stuff, but since in 08, I was able to experience a lot of new things, in 09, I would like to branch off that, and accomplish more. Be excited for 09 ne!

Yamada Ryosuke

2008 was a very busy year. Every single job that I did was hard in some way or the other. All the jobs have different genres to them, and choosing which one was the best or the hardest is one thing that I hate choosing (laughs). Every event that I did was the fulfill the enjoyment of the fans, so all of them are close to my heart. All of them were really fun too. There was the responsibility of putting things together by myself, but with the group Hey! Say! JUMP, there was also pressure too, for all of us to strive to do out best. All of us changed. This one year was a pretty big year.

End-of-the year concert. This time, from the basic things to the main theme, we all chose it ourselves, so that’s one of the few things people should look out for. The whole stage looks really good, and not just the songs, but also the whole experience, the fans will be able to enjoy.

A good story lately… I saw a shooting star from my attic. I was really happy. A wish? Never! (laughs) It went by so fast, there’s not enough time to think of a wish (laughs).

A thing I want to “catch”. I don’t mind if it goes by really slow, but I want to catch Hey! Say! JUMP. There’s still a lot to learn out there, and I want to catch them. So catching Hey! Say! JUMP is my biggest goal for 2009.

I try not to change my thinking for whatever job that comes my way. There are people that like me who thinks “………” about me, but Yamada Ryosuke is Yamada Ryosuke. I’ll charge with whatever I think is right, and with all my strengh. I won’t let people drift me away, and I’ll show that to you this year.

Okamoto Keito

2008. You know that saying, “Times flies when you’re having fun,”? I thought that statement was certainly true (laughs). All of the experiences that I had are still in my head, but the fact that Hey! Say! JUMP was the main for “SUMMARY 2008,” and us being the supporters for the World Cup Volleyball, all of them, I am glad for and are still in my head. From now on, I want more memories to fill my mind. And then, there’s the end-of-the-year concert. JUMP is broken up into Hey! Say! 7 and Hey! Say! BEST, so all the members are within one group, and I’m thinking about how I want to approach the groups with the different personalities. Up until now, it was basically, “Ten people makes one,” but I was thinking about adding color or something (laughs). We’ll show you a new side of us!

Lately… Oh yeah! I bought presents for Hikarukun and Chinen for their birthdays! (in a small voice) Since Chinen has the letter Y in his initials, I bought him a keychain like accessory. For Hikarukun, I bought a ring with a guitar-like feeling to it, so for his birthday (December 2nd) I’m planning to give it to him. I like giving presents to people. For the members, I research what they like or what they’re into, and I go out and buy them. I spend money more on the people around me, and less on myself. I go out to buy something for myself sometimes but I think, “I can use this with my friend,” and that’s how I buy out stuff. I like shopping while thinking about different stuff.

What I want to catch… Right now I’m 15, I’m turning 16 next year, and I want to do something that only my age can do. I get jealous by listening to the other members’ stories about their school, because mine is really strict (laughs). School festivals sounds fun.
