In my culture, kissing as a greeting is common.. but since i live in the states, it seems really weird.

Nope, only a peck on the cheek for those elderly female relatives they dragged me to visit once a year as a kid. Since they passed away the most intimate greeting a female will get from me is maybe a hug if they catch me unaware. I save all my kisses for my girlfriend and not for greeting her.  |

I kiss my close friends as a greeting and sometimes when I feel extra affectionate towards them! I also kiss people with whom I may not be as close but who are members of cultures in which kissing is normal. It's nice and sweet, but beware of making it a habit and finding yourself out of habit going to kiss someone on the cheek whom you should not kiss!

yeah pretty normal the kisses on the cheeks but, yea, between women; or woman/man, and with only close people...It's pretty common for me....Hmmm but I noticed that english people prefer hugs and touch more than French...^^ and that's a good point I think
But why some people think that we kiss on the lips as a greeting ?!! Ahaha... It reminds me of hana yori dango when the girl kiss Rui becuz she comes from France.....Bwahaha, funny....

With family I guess, but not with just general acquaintances. Also, I think it's more popular in Europe right? Like Italy, Spain, those laid back sort of places.

On the mouth? I don't do it. Not opposed to it but it's not really socially acceptable over here unless you're kissing a boyfriend/girlfriend. Plus, I'm not always sure where there lips've been >_< If I wasn't so worried about that and everyone else wanted to, I would.
