Family- Depends on culture I guess. For most of my family it's normal to kiss each other on the cheeks for hellos and goodbyes as well as thankyous and goodlucks.

Friends- Some close friends might be greeted with a kiss on the cheek, but most of the time it's a hug.

Boyfriend/Girlfriend- Duh, of course you kiss.

Strangers- You can get those type that kiss as hellos no matter what the circumstance, but I don't like kissing people I just met on the cheek, or at all for that matter, weird.

I prefer hugs. I don't want dozens of other people's saliva on my cheeks. Nor do I want to have my lips on theirs.

I don't even like kissing a girl in public even if she is my girlfriend. Maybe a peck on the lips or the cheek "once in a while" in public. I hate the couples that eat each other's faces and are "touchy-feely " in public. Especially in a public place people have to stay for the duration of: ie. class, library, train, coffee shop, etc.

Nah, I'm good. A handshake or hug would suffice. I hardly hug my friends so imagine if a stranger pecked me on the cheek.

a kiss on the cheeks as greeting is a normal thing in my culture
for parents and old relatives a kiss on the forehead or head shows that you respect them

I'm pretty sure its customary in some cultures.

I for one personally don't partake in such a thing, but there are certainly times when working at the restaurant I've seen customers kiss to greet each other. (Mind you, I mean like pecks. Not like... well, not like you'd imagine from hormone driven teens or something.)

Only old ladies kiss me on the cheek when I greet them.
Or close friends of mine but we do it for fun...not like a habit or our normal way of greeting
