I agree, Akira definitely was important. But I'm surprised Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and Kiki's Delivery Service haven't been mentioned much... After all, Princess Mononoke was the highest-grossing film in Japan until Titanic (1997) came out, and the first animated film to win Picture of the Year at the Japanese Academy Awards. In addition, Spirited Away was the first anime film to win an Academy Award. In 2006, Time Magazine voted Miyazaki one of the most influential Asians of the past 60 years.

Lol, that's the boxing anime thingy, right? Hmmm... I thought the anime was pretty recent, but I guess the manga is like 20 years old...
However, to be honest, I don't know many people who watch sports animes...
Perhaps I'm wrong? Sighz*, I have no idea...

Lol, Hajime no Ippo started a long time ago, only there ish a new Season called : A New Challenger.

There are a load of people who watches ''sports'' anime, just look at the library from Eyeshield 21 in crunchyroll, and check how many times it is viewed my friend.

Same goes for P Prince

Pokemon should be included just because it helped a lot of people become otakus. And so did Gundam Wing, but
Wing is different, the anime was amazing; Pokemon wasn't that good, too many fillers. Gundam in whole is anime
history EXCEPT SEED AND DESTINY. I agree with Astro Boy, Death Note is definitely up there. Naruto because, like Pokemon,
is very popular in the U.S; The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, just because its epic!
Macross, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Mazinger Z, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon.
Bleach is a future anime-history-inductee, its not as popular with the U.S kids as Naruto, yet. Cowboy Bebop, Hajime no Ippo,
Dragon Quest, One Piece, Maybe Code Geass, maybe. Eureka Seven, Full Metal Alchemist, Full Metal Panic, Fist of the North
Star, and MANY MORE...
