Okay the anime series Air, right?

So someone explain this to me, because it lost me. Yukito and Misuzu meet, things are going great, he's making friend sand you see where she could also become friends with the same people, except for the fac that she has a issue where she starts crying when she really starts to care about someone. Come to find out, she's like the reincarnated form of a winged girl named Kanna, and Yukito is the descendant of Ryuya who were in love before they both met a tradgic end.

I get that much. But then the show got weird on me. Yukito is suppose to SAVE Misuzu/Kanna, I thought, you know, ending the cycle of unhappiness. Why does he turn into a bird, yet still exist in a human form and then the story is recapped from the Bird's POV that wasn't there in the beginning... And then she ends up dying anyway, which to me seemed to kind of defeat the whole purpose of what i thought was the original plot, which was to save the girl in the sky from her unhappiness and sad dreams. At least in the movie, she has a real sickness, a unknown disease that's killing her rather than some random curse.

So please explain to me what the heck this story was about, or did I just totally miss it. Is it about sad endings and new beginnings? You have to let go of something cherished in order to find something else? I don't get it. Why would you have to lose in order to gain, suffer in order to be happy?

If this is a total thread violation, I'm sorry, but the actual Air forum wasn't much help.

Wouldn't have being able to live a full life and learning to make friends and being with the one she loves, wouldn't that have been a happier fate than dying?? And that doesn't explain the bird or how Yukito apparently achieved happiness when he loses the girl he loves and someone ends up both as himself and as a crow.

She was already happy in the ending. Did you not read, "GOAL!"

The bird thing is part of Key's supernatural themes. If you've watched Kanon and Clannad you would understand.

So once you believe you're happy, even while at the same time suffering, you should then die? And yes, i saw the goal part, I cried all the way through. It just didn't make sense to me, maybe it's just cultural differences, but wouldn't she have been happier to be freed from the curse and able to stay alive? Learning to make friends and being with Yukito and her mother? Does it make her happy to cause sadness for the ones she loves, and where the heck was Yukito at the end anyway, just the bird was there!

I did not interpret her as being free of the curse, but free of the existence she was currently in which was painful. the angel is still cursed.

But I thought that was the point. I thought Yukito was suppose to end the curse, like where he hears his mother telling him how she and her mother put their wishes into the little doll so that with it he would be able to end the curse.

Yukito was the bird, or I think yukito died too.

She won't live long cause the soul of the winged girl was too much for her body. The dying of Misuzu was the breaking of the curse on her. But kanna will still go through the eternal cycle of suffering. It's kinda hard to explain since it's been a long time since I saw that series.

The family is, and will continue although since he is a bird I have no idea how it would workout o.o
