as Khalil Gibran once said, 'Your children are not your children. They came through you but not from you and though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
i really appreciate the quote
because it is real, and can be seen nowadays, even on the old days
parents , oftentimes push children to achieve their goals that they have failed to achieve
which can lead to two things:
~the child is inspired and the child takes it as a challenge
~the child hates the parent for pushing too much and not supporting him in what he wants

children have their own talents and own dreams
parents shouldn't mix theirs.

the question is:
~do you feel that your parents are pushing you?
~if yes, how do you say so
if no,,, well you're a lucky child xDDD

i really wanted my parents to be proud. but i would like to do it the way i want. not having them to decide or whatever.
:| but they are pushing me to be the valedictorian
sadly, i second.
so now they're mad at me and they keep saying "how would you be a doctor/lawyer/engineer/etc. if you are always second!? you should study harder!!!!!!!!"
take note, with mad faces
OH COME ON, i want to be a photographer!
and i love art, not money
so i said "stfu and let me go along my way"
so, they deprived me from education.

btw, my mom didn't finish college and my dad has a high position in the company only because it is owned by our family
Parents do own. people like tiger woods etc are pushed into those things by their parents. Parents shape and mould you and should at a young age push you to do things and then make sure you stick to it. Although I get annoyed when people think you should only be a doctor/lawyer and that art is a drop-out subject.

god you emo teens

stop complaining.

my parents are: be an angel till University, then do whatever crazy shit you want.

of course your parents push you, who else will make you complete your assignments?

My parents did attempt to pressure me into things, thinking its for my own good.
but it only caused the opposite effect.
and they never learn from their failed efforts.

so now that I am legal, and of right age - no chains attached - i can tell them to fuck the hell off.

It's not just my parents.
It's my parent's friends... It's like I'm being forced not only to make my parents proud, but to make other parents envious that their child isn't as great as me. It's really annoying and puts on a lot of pressure. Why am I being forced to impress people I barely know? Those people have nothing to do with me and aren't my family. It just really gets on my nerves.

have you tried confronting them?

Yeah.. They pretty much don't care how I feel.

Basically, no one in my family has ever graduated from college either because:

1. They had children at a young age.
2. They dropped out.

Now that I'm turning 16 at the end of this month and getting closer to college, it's becoming more difficult. And the sad thing is, if I fail, I'll only be looked down on since:

1. The other half of my family believes I was spoiled my whole life and know nothing about the world.
2. That since I'm being homeschooled and finally get into college I'll start to meet boys and end up like everyone else in my family either broke, alone, bitter, money-greedy, have a child out of wedlock or actually has a child with a father, but is misrable does drugs, has no job and drinks.

So yeah, I have a lot of shit to do. In a few years, I'll probably be the only person in my family to finish school.

you don't have siblings
and btw, does your name has something to do w/ gaiaonline?

No, I don't have siblings, I'm an only child.
And no, my name has nothing to do with Gaia online. It has something to do with the goddess of earth, Gaia.

It has nothing to do with being emo, I think people are forgetting what this word truely means and using it loosely. It's not like we're slitting our rist or crying about how much our life sucks and how we want to die. It's just a way to vent, and there's nothing wrong with venting.

This is true, but everyone has their limits. A person can only do so much. I can understand your parents trying to help you, but at the end of the day it's your life and what you choose to do with it is your own choice, your parents have no right to dictate you.

im sorry, but your parents do have the right to control you! They own you!

and usually parents just want whats best for their children, yet all teens want to do is watch anime and porn.
Sorry, but thats not going to get you anywhere in life

You know nothing about me or my family, nor do you know about any of the families here on this thread. While most of the things you said maybe true, some kids have hard times with their parents. I know of pleanty of children who are in foster care right now because their paretns abused and neglected them.

And no, not every teenager watches porn and anime, that's just stereotyping.

Wow...

Is that the only thing you have to say?
