umm..when i tried dat it totally got messed up

can i c sum screen shots on how u did it?

If you want to make a really nice avii, you''ll need to learn how to render first. But the scaling isn't that hard to do, so i don't know how you messed that up

Yes actually there are some really awesome brushes by redheadstock on deviantart.com. As for the backgrounds I usually spend time mixing brushes, gradients and text to make a cool looking background.

You need a brush for that, or you can make your own brush. Look at the forum post above yours, it has a link in it where you can get the brushes.

I'm leaving tomorrow for my vacation, and was able to come on a little bit, so I'll answer Eave's question about the brushes.

Making your own brush is simple, depending on what you want to make.
There are already pre-installed brushes in gimp, so if you want to try making a brush with those or drawing a brush from hand on the comp you can do either one of those.

Some things that make using the brushes easier is having a transparent background. It will be easier for you and for people to use, in case you want to upload your own brushes some time for others to use.

What I do to get a transparent background is go to file > click on new > set the size you want > right click on the background > go to images > click on merge visible layers (merge layers) > hit okay, don't mess with any of the settings > then erase the background - I would suggest that you change the size of the eraser to make it faster to erase.

Now what you have left is a transparent background. Make your design, and then when you're ready to save it:

go to file > click save as > make sure you save it to Desktop (makes it easier to find) > click where it says file type > scroll down to Gimp Brush.

It will probably ask you to fill in information like the description and name. The description isn't really important, but you can fill that in if you feel the need to. Then hit save and if you want to check and make sure you did it right:

go to file open > find your brush that you just made > open it

If it has a transparent background when you're done, then you did it correctly.

Good Job!

This is for when you render an image and you want to be able to use it like you would a brush:

And about the adding a forum post about the tools in gimp I will do that, but it will take some time to complete. So please be patient.
