Will the 70s reoccur?
Posted 3/22/09 , edited 3/22/09
A few quick things before I start:

(1) I looked up "history" and "will history repeat" and "will the 70s repeat" on the forum search and found nothing. I did think that was a little fishy that a thread like this hasn't already been created, but at the same time, I feel this is a good topic to discuss and decided to take the risk seeing as I couldn't find anything. I read the rules, thank you.

(2) I'm personally only interested in the 70s. Many decades have passed and this is partially a personal question. If a mod decides to change it to, "Will history repeat itself" or one just decides to lock it, then so be it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

I was born in the 90s and I think it unfair that I never got to experience these years. I'm a person who wants to be laid back, as honest as I want to be, trusting of others, etc. but I feel as though I can never let my guard down anymore. I'm not asking for us to go back in time. That would, most likely, just throw everything out of whack. And there's probably a very valid reason as to why i was born in the 90s. One that God (yes, I'm religious) can probably only explain. But I want to read your thoughts here.

Do you think things will ever change back like, almost completely? That the fashion trends, music, TV storylines, all that will return? And more importantly (IMO) do you think a majority of us will ever be able to build that trust in each other up again? If yes or no, state why please.

Yes in my country the 70's and 80's will reoccur this summer already ^^ The fashion, the music. Pretty much everything is coming back for a final kick.
It'll be fun I think. Except for those huge shoulder things -.-''

With the fairly recent death of innovation and creativity within American mainstream culture, it wouldn't be a big surprise. We're already remaking movies and shows that have already been remade a few times before, and as far as I know old fashion trends are constantly resurfacing.

I don't get why living in a certain time period should prevent you from being the kind of person you want to be.

Why do you think the population would change?

Ugh I'd want all that new fancy technology gone, and to be able to live in those primitive times. Frankly I think people are a lot better off without home computers. We got the home computers in '79, so maybe it'd be nice to live in the years before that one. Leaves less of a reason to stay inside the house all day.

The music was so much better that's for sure.

For christs sake, leave the 70's in the past. You can be as trusting, honest and what not as you want to be without bring back the very forgetable music, fashion, and TV from the 70's! Disco, Bell bottoms and the Brady Bunch? Are you crazy?!

heck? why not live in the dark ages? thats way better...

No.

But you can set up a community of your own and make it all 70s-like. I'm sure you'd find quite a few people who'd want to join your time revolution.

It is called "the 70's" for a reason. Let us keep it that way. I don't want shoulder pads and polka dots to become a fad once more.

There's actually a dance group that is dedicated to 80s, so why not the 70s then.

It won't be a complete change on majority. Few groups will pick that certain habits of that era, just like the Harry Potter group, the Medieval group, the Vamp group, so on and so forth.

However, if the media takes a major role upon this interest and constantly bombardes people to share interest with each other, bringing back the 70s is not that impossible.

Good examples are the things happening in South Korea, such as the popularity of: "Bokko Dance by Bae Seul Gi," "Tell Me by Wonder Girls," "StarCraft," etc.

In my opinion, media should target teenagers as their main audience because teens are really more open to new stuffs and changes.

I don't completely understand why you wouldn't want to bring it back, and vice versa. The only difference is that I choose to respect that, but I see that's gonna be difficult for you.

I'd wish to bring back the unforgettable music, fashion, and TV shows because I personally like all of that, thank you. And I would appreciate it if you didn't speak as if your opinion is the only one that's right, because it's crap to think so.

With all the scene kids popping up, we're gonna get a carbon copy. Only with bigger whores and shittier music. Yay!
