Lee Na-young

Date of birth : Feb 22, 1979
Profession : Actress
Height : 169cm
Weight : 48kg

Biography

The public persona of Lee Na-young (b. February 22, 1979) is interesting for its contradictions. She is most famous, perhaps, as Korea"s quintessential cosmetics model. Only top-ranked models are able to get anywhere near cosmetics ads, and she is considered to have one of the most beautiful and idealized faces in Korea.

She has played off this image to a certain extent in her appearances on TV dramas. Her debut was in the SBS drama Queen in 1998, the same year she started her modeling career. In the coming years she would appear in a number of popular dramas, including Have We Really Loved? (1999) with Bae Yong-joon, KAIST (2000), the critically acclaimed Ruler of Your Own World (2002), and Ireland (2004).
[
Nonetheless, her image in films has been almost the opposite. She first appeared in the rather unfortunate sci-fi film Dream of a Warrior in 2000 with Hong Kong star Leon Lai, and continued on in the charming but overlooked Who Are You? with Cho Seung-woo. She is best known, however, for her roles in Please Teach Me English and Jang Jin"s Someone Special, where she portrays women who are awkward, eccentric, and the very opposite of glamourous. She has proved to be quite skilled in these roles, contributing greatly to the comic success of those two films and winning a Best Actress prize from the Blue Dragon Awards for her role in Someone Special.

Lee Na-young steps into transgender role

Actress Lee Na-young, last in Kim Ki-duk’s Dream with Joe Odagiri, has begun filming her newest film, Dad Likes Women [아빠가 여자를 좋아해], in which she plays a (male-to-female) transgender character. In these still frames, we see Lee Na-young playing her post-op character of Ji-hyun, a role said to showcase lots of comic acting from Lee.

Directed by Lee Kwang-jae and produced by Harimao Pictures (Level 7 Civil Servant), Dad Likes Women is described as a “romantic family comedy.” Lee Na-young’s Ji-hyun is a photographer with a great career and love life, and Kim Ji-seok (Hometown of Legends) plays the make-up artist Jun-seo who showers her with affection. Jun-seo has good looks and a great personality, but his romancing skills lack a certain something (they “fall just 2% short”), and thus he has a bit of trouble winning Ji-hyun over completely.

Things hit a snag upon the appearance of Yoo-bin, a young boy (played by child actor Kim Hee-soo of Breathless) who calls Ji-hyun “Dad.” Conflict (and laughs) ensue.

The movie began its first shoots on August 17 and plans to open in December.

Lee Na-young becomes 1st Korean on W cover
wooooooooow

Actress Lee Na-young has become the first Korean to grace the cover of fashion magazine "W Korea", according to her agency BOF Entertainment on Monday.

"W Korea", the only licensed version of U.S. magazine "W", is sold not only in Korea but also in major bookstores throughout New York.

Lee collaborated with famed German photographer Donata Wenders and fashion brand Burberry Prorsum for the cover, along with a fashion spread and interview carried in 20 pages in the November issue of the magazine.

Wenders said she wanted to "capture Lee's emotions as a stranger in the unfamiliar city of Berlin" where the shoot took place in over 20 locations during three days.

Lee was then invited to the Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2010 Show held at London Fashion Week in late September as Burberry's muse and to represent Asia.

Wenders is a globally recognized photographer who is in charge of creating the film posters for her husband Wim Wender, director of movies including "Wings of Desire" and "The Million Dollar Hotel". She has worked with top actors including Mel Gibson and Militza Jovovich.

Lee first rose to stardom with TV series "Ruler of Your Own World" and later won an award for best actress in film "Someone Special" at the 25th Blue Dragon Film Awards. She has also appeared in scores of TV commercials in Korea.
