An American version would be interesting, but would most likely ruin Hana Yori Dango. I do have to admitt that Id probably watch it just because I love Hana Yori Dango, and would watch anything related to it. But I think there isn't any American actors/actresses that would fit the roles right, or protray the charaters correctly.

^I'm sure that out of 300 million plus Americans there is someone who could do the characters justice ;).

One potential that I really like about an American version is that the characters could really be of any ethnicity. As long as the actor could pull off the character, it doesn't matter if they're White, Hispanic, Black, Middle Eastern, Asian, anything.

i hope this will not happen...

eventhough i love some of mention cast,,

we all know that American can't do innocence drama like this...

they are too liberated for this drama :)

Oh God! The idea! THE HORROR!!! I'm sorry, but I don't like American shows or movies. An American version of Hana Yori Dango will just ruin HYD's reputation. I agree about the sex scenes. HYD is meant to be an innocent idol drama, not some explicit movie. However, I would still go see it. I'm too much of a fan of HYD to not see the other of the versions.

Even if they were to make an American version, I don't think it would receive high ratings. The plot is just too weird for most Americans to comprehend.

About the actors and actresses... I can't picture any of them as HYD characters... Maybe it's because I'm so used to the characters being asian, I can't imagine them a different race. I'm sorry if I sound racist. I wasn't trying to. So sorry. >.<

HYD will lose the special spice it has if made into an american version
maybe the american cast (if there was) can pull it off but I woudn't grow to attached to them like Jun, Mao, and Shun

Those are my feelings too :). I'm really curious to see how it would work out.
I wouldn't be upset about any cultural changes or anything like that because it's not like it'll change HYD. We HAVE the Japanese, Taiwan, Korean versions - they aren't going anywhere. So it doesn't matter if an American one is really different from them - we can go back to our favorites whenever we feel like.

I also see an American version of HYD being good for spreading awareness of this gem of a story to a wider audience. It has a universally appealing premise and girls around the world deserve to know about it and love it as much as we do .

After reading through this thread, all of your posts pretty much sum up what I was going to say

I think it would be a bad idea. The Japanese version is the best, that is all.
Besides American versions of asian movies/shows have been a total fail pretty much 100% of the time I can't even think of one good remake.

personally i preferred the korean version....

okay, for one point..
americans don't really do well with the poor-girl-with-tough-ass kinda thing
hel
lo...?

my girl american version, remember?
that movie was a total FAIL
.

um I think it depends on the director and cast and such. as I remember countries do not make movies, people do. and it funny because it seems like ppl think only Disney have actors. if their were to remake HYD into an American version I think ppl will be upset because like with the taiwanese ver. and the korean ver. the producers and directors have to make it according to their culture their people to like it. i mean, I've seen all 3 versions of HYD (Japanese still the best ) and none of them were alike. the korean one was like a regular korean drama which is great acting and very dramatic and meteor garden was more humorous to me. none of them were alike. so if you do not like the american culture or american movies, actors, producers or directors then most likely you wont like it. (btw, most asian dramas r the same cinderella story, that's y i take breaks)

i agree fully on the ellen page idea!!!

to all the people getting butt-hurt about the "omgosh no more re-makes!! they'll totally ruin it!!" no one said their would be one. this is just for fun. e_e

since this is just for kicks anyway, not all my picks are "American" just western stars i guess, lol.

Emma Watson as MakinoTsukushi /Jan Di/Shan-cai (GORGEOUS!)

F4
Joe Jonas as Domiyouji Tsukasa/Jun Pyo/Ming-si (eh he's got the curls... if this were real i'd like someone taller.)
Alex Pettyfer as Hanazawa Rui//Ji Hoo/Lei (he's just so.... hot.)
Jason Dolley as Sojirou/Yi Jung/Xi-men (i can't think of anyone else... haha)
?? as Akira/Woo bin/Mei Zou (any cute guy, really. haha. this guy srsly gets snubbed when it comes to the plot.)

Selena Gomez as Yuki/Ga Eul/Xiao You (adorable.)
?? as Sakurako/Min Ji (dunno yet)
?? as Fiance (dunno yet)
?? as Super model ex-girlfriend (dunno yet)
?? as Big sister (dunno yet)

Kelly Rutherford as evil mother (after seeing the korean version, how HOT (but evil) the mom was, i thought serena's mom from gossip girl would be a good choice)
