Shouldn't be mandatory, 'cause the cost of living can be a burden (Yes, some pocket change plz for this poor sod ). Culture diff can be a shock also

i'm always one for a good culture shock, though if I were to study abroad anywhere any time soon it would be in Austria because my grandfather lives there so i get free room and board

hmmmmm....
travelling abroad as a college requirement??? it sounds fun.. but I think it would be better if it wasn't a requirement... bcoz' some student were just forced to do it... maybe let us just consider it as a once in a life time experience to study abroad... and to meet other people and study the different cultures..
here in our country.. it is not a requirement... but for some courses like tourism... it is a must that you will go to other places...
as they say.. experience is the best teacher... ahahha

Traveling abroad is a real enriching experience for students. I traveled abroad to Japan while I was in college and it was the best experience! However, depending on the school you go to, its not cheap. Luckily for me, going to school in Japan was the same tuition as me going to a regular semester at my school, plus scholarships. However, if they were to make it into something everyone could do (which they should), I would recommend it to be a requirement. I think everyone should be able to experience something like that. I loved it.

i think its a great idea and I would love to do it .. there was a chinese study program at my college recently it looked fun ..but idk if i would make it a requirement because it usually cost over 2,000 at the least and some people cant afford that. Theres other reason as well but over all it sounds like a cool idea but i wouldnt make it a requirement.

It does cost a lot but when my uncle went to japan he actually would have made money if he stayed in school. Oh and the reason he didn't stay in school was because some bad things happened back in the states so he didn't have a good time. Didn't have enough money to come back then fly back... sad.

Ooooh wat school did you go to?! You have to fill me in with all the details . Besides that I just applied to study abroad with USAC! I'm excited but there's 15 spots only and competing with other schools in America. Sadly I applied to study in Japan and go figure it's one of the most popular ones! Eeek I'm definatly all for it, but I also don't like the idea of other students to study abroad for the fun of it and not because they're serious about the language what so ever. Luckily, for the Japan program one semester of japanese is required which makes me really happy because I don't want some people thinking it's oh soo nice without being serious about the language esp. since there's soo few spots
