Traveling abroad is a real enriching experience for students. I traveled abroad to Japan while I was in college and it was the best experience! However, depending on the school you go to, its not cheap. Luckily for me, going to school in Japan was the same tuition as me going to a regular semester at my school, plus scholarships. However, if they were to make it into something everyone could do (which they should), I would recommend it to be a requirement. I think everyone should be able to experience something like that. I loved it.

Ooooh wat school did you go to?! You have to fill me in with all the details . Besides that I just applied to study abroad with USAC! I'm excited but there's 15 spots only and competing with other schools in America. Sadly I applied to study in Japan and go figure it's one of the most popular ones! Eeek I'm definatly all for it, but I also don't like the idea of other students to study abroad for the fun of it and not because they're serious about the language what so ever. Luckily, for the Japan program one semester of japanese is required which makes me really happy because I don't want some people thinking it's oh soo nice without being serious about the language esp. since there's soo few spots

I really hope you are able to go! I know it can be really competitive doing an exchange program over in Japan. It would be an awesome experience. I went to Texas State University-San Marcos. I loved it and the exchange programs/study abroad sessions were really good. You should definitely take up Japanese too. Its a fun language to learn anyway. During my time at study abroad it made me really mad sometimes because there were sooo many people who were just there for the guys and/or girls and didn't really care about the language or the culture at all. It seemed as if they were making a mockery of it sometimes but whatever. I mean don't get me wrong, the guys are a plus but there's more to Japan than that you know? Let me know what you want to know about the study abroad program. I don't mind helping you out!

i think its a great idea and I would love to do it .. there was a chinese study program at my college recently it looked fun ..but idk if i would make it a requirement because it usually cost over 2,000 at the least and some people cant afford that. Theres other reason as well but over all it sounds like a cool idea but i wouldnt make it a requirement.

It does cost a lot but when my uncle went to japan he actually would have made money if he stayed in school. Oh and the reason he didn't stay in school was because some bad things happened back in the states so he didn't have a good time. Didn't have enough money to come back then fly back... sad.

that sux...but for ppl w/ money or who can get scolarships it would be awesome... after i finish my last two years at the college im in now im hoping to study architecture in austria if i can

whatever you guys do.....TRAVEL ABROAD!!!! college might be one of the only times of your life where you will be able travel without it being a short vacation. it might be the only time where you can actually live in another country. seriously, of all the older people i've talked to, i've always gotten these two pieces of advice:

a. don't get married (the most common )
b. travel a lot while you can

I lived in Japan for 4 1/2 years. However that was when i was a kid, 1992-1997, i moved out when i was just around 10 years old. 4 seasons of cherry blossoms, one in Hokkaido, and the constant exposure to their history makes me miss japan a lot when watching Anime ^^ Its well worth it the trip, but i advise those who go their to pick up a book about daily habits such as the different shoes for different things just in the house, i had to learn the hard way. I lived 1 hour way from a naval base called Yokusuka most of the time, so i lived with some natives there ^^ They also love children, expecualy with those of blonde hair and blue eyes -hint hint- i got free sushi on many occasion, expecualy from the next door neighbors. Only 2 complaints with is expected, the traffic is crazy! and... you cant actually fish on their shores, the water is black, well at least right around were i lived, lol. And just incase if you have read this far and is curious where Yokusuka is, it is southwest of Tokyo, i dont know the distance but it is a 2 maybe 3 hour drive just because of the traffic.

I would love to study abroad. The moment the opportunity arises, I'm going for it. It's a good way to learn, absorb, and gain more respect for a culture. The only thing that makes me all iffy about it is the fact that I'll be living in a different country, away from my family, friends, and everything that I know. Then there's the while language thing [I'm horrible at learning a new language] and the cultural differences, which I'm actually not all that worried about because I sure I'll be pretty open to accepting anything and everything I learn.
