I think Hong Kong might be better off as it is right now. If China has full control over it, Hong Kong people would not enjoy certain rights like being able to go on facebook, youtube, google, etc.

Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with the politics so much even though I live there.

But I can say that we are considered a SAR (Special Administrative Region) and are given our own passports (Hong Kong Passport).

We have our own currency and flag, so we don't really feel like we're a part of China really.

hong kong will become a shit hole in 5 years in the hand of china. it's not that i hate china and their policy(but then again they are communists) but theyre the people who banned movies like shaolin soccer because they see it as an insult. Do we really want such close-minded country to control hong kong? I remember when i was little, before 97 people in china praise hong kong like a paradise, everyone want to immigrate there, but now, not so much.

Why in 5 years? The PRC already ruled it for 15 years now.

You know alot of Hong Kong people are moving to mainland China.

Hong Kong still has an important role in China, the rule of law which Chinese mainland lacks.

China doesn't have to rule Hong Kong but as long as China does not agree to anyone else ruling her, no one else can since Hong Kong's success is directly linked to China. At least now Hong Kong money is not being siphoned off to a foreign country.

well we were part of china before ... and we're chinese anyways...
I understand how hong kong society likes to be put apart from china because the rest of the world thinks china as the place that makes cheap stuff, but we can't really change the fact that the British "took over" HK, and I guess it's right for stolen property to return? correct me if I'm wrong.

i dont share the fear of what will happen 2047 with hong kong. china is not as communistic as they say. they call themselves communist party but what theyre doing has nothing to do with communism anymore.
what i still dont understand is why everybody is picking on china for all the human rights stuff. i know that freedom of speech etc. is important(i wouldnt want to miss those rights myself). but just take a look at the industrial revolution in europe. china is undergoing the same changes europe has. as soon as nobody has to worry about maybe starving they start to demand other rights and freedom. i even think that this development will go at an even faster pace in china than it has gone in europe. i think all the "westerners", "gwailo" or whatever you want to call them have to get down from their high horse. its not like the western countries are the pinnacle of civilization.
