I think that there's plenty of smart characters out there in anime. I don't think there's just one, but I think L, Light, and Katio from Phi Brain would be fit to being the smartest characters.

Washu from Tenchi. Though to tell the truth, the way she zipped around like a clown through the series didn't show off her legendary intelligence, still her background is compelling :P
No scientists in history not Sir Isaac Newton, not Albert Einstein not Stephen Hawking, not Galileo Galilei, not Leonardo Da Vinci nor Giordano Bruno or Carl Sagan would be able to share a stage with this pink-haired lady without being laughed off of it, her inventions would leave everyone in the dust!



While with such fierce competition she may not win the day, still I think Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky the 4th also deserves an honorable mention at least. Maybe she could win a "youth prize" for academic excellence? Or be the winner of the international anime chess contest?

light! light! light! LIGHT! he pretty much had the world looking at home so he had 2 be careful nd the way he would handle spontaneous situations nd he had the world in his hands when half of it was afraid of him while the other half supported him because regardless of his random evil killings nd his thirst 4 power he ultimately wanted good for the world nd 2 perish evil. Ma man really only got defeated because the majority of viewers like to see the good guy win so they made up N's dumbass. -___________- he defeated L and also had a substantial amount of time after his death 2 gain experience nd all that shit lol u really think some prepubescent boy is gonna outsmart a grown man who was pretty much the ruler of the world and also gained this title on his own? anytime sum1 would help him was because he thought of a way for that person 2 help him
