Transsexuals not transvestites
|
I just saw on the official website that Mi-ko and Momoko aren't transvestites but both are transsexuals.

i really don't see the point to it. .. is this humorous in japan? .. some kind of commentary on medical ethics of the future? .. i don't get it. .. in some of the kdramas, the characters talk a lot about plastic surgery, making it seem common, almost whimsical. maybe this is just an extrapolation from that . like, in the future, surgery will be so cheap, safe, and easy, people will just be having all kinds of operations whenever they want. .. or are they saying that in the future, gender won't be such a powerful issue? today, you're one kind, tomorrow, the other. .. i guess the answer is, "let's watch and find out" ^ ^

Malgorium,
plastic surgery is a HUGE business in Korea right now, and everybody really is getting it, whether its something small as getting double eyelids to getting a Western-type nose. Thus, it IS common. And I kind of like the trans-whatevers ^_^ they shake it up a bit and make the series that much more interesting |

The inclusion of Transsexuals definitly mades the series more interesting from my point of view. Definitly not your run of the mill characters here. Also, it seems that most of the characters are pretty excepting of them, like it's not a big deal. Maybe it's not a big deal in the future. There may also be a reason why the creators of the show have included them that touch on the broader themes of the show. I'm not sure what that might be at the moment. I actually think they are both pretty sympathic characters.

or another way to think about it, it's a way to have a "mother" and "sister" in to the mix, as the other guy would be more of the "brother" or the group. so the main charecter would have a family other then her grandmother. I think that's it's a great idea and at the same funny. who else in the middle of a fight would go around kissing guys and tormenting them?

Also, gender isn't an issue. In the 'future,' maybe the world will see that. |

WTF i'm scared Wait, what? Homosexuality and transsexualism are completely separate things. Transsexuals can be attracted to men, women, or both, just the same as anyone else. And nobody (okay, I'm sure someone would but it'd be a REALLY weird case) would go through something as drastic and life-changing as a sex change just to be heterosexual. Anyway, I don't think that having transsexual characters in Shangri-La is anything but a way of diversifying the cast. And I wholeheartedly approve of my kickass transwomen. |

Who cares? has anyone watched Tokyo God Fathers? Well there was a cross dresser in that anime but it turned out to be immensly popular. For me I find the transexuals in Shangrilla Really funny and special, the characters are extremely deep and amazing, unlike many other animes are where all the characters are voiced by 2 people and the characters are really dull!.
