Rin Okumura from Ao No Exorcist.
I don't hate him (he's actually one of my most favorite characters) or the anime at all, but I can't stand the quick fan service he received in a snap, especially for dumb reasons like "I only like him because HE'S SO HOT". I....just don't think that's fair....or right. -_-

Honestly , my first impression on him is " He isn't so hot " But then , after watching a few episodes , it's his personality and characteristic and made me think that it's worth that he's getting fans around.
I mean seriously , you just have to love his emotions. Especially the part when Shiro died and he was kneeling there uttering "dad".
His character expressions are well animated.
And , despite being a half demon , he's the most sensitive and caring one among all of them.
Rin has more than just looks alright.

Well I'm glad that you like him with his personality and how he is way more than his looks. I just get sick of that. Glad you like him as much as I do though.
Well my true opinion of an overrated character would have to be Kakashi from Naruto (sorry people).
Edit: Hopefully there are more fans who will like characters for personality first, then looks second. I am REALLY sick of people watching an anime for how hot characters are, unless it's suppose to be that way, which in AnE, it's not.

Naruto because he is a ninja that wears orange and he falls in love with Sasuke even though from my memory Sasuke treated him like crap all the time. Sakura's relationship with Sasuke is about the same. Why do they defend Sasuke so much? It doesn't make sense. I actually liked young Naruto, can't stand older Naruto. Also younger Naruto's jump suit was more tolerable, I don't know why.

Yeah glad you don't judge things by looks first too. And will add on a little which is the seiyuu of Rin does fits the character very well.
And now that you mentioned about people judging from characters looks , overrated ones are more likely the ones from vampire knight. Used to like them , but soon after I noticed how dull the story is in a way. So forget about it.
Ao no exorcist has nice animation , characters are proportioned too and not to mention their choice of background musics and osts. Haven't seen much good animes like these for some time now.
