Overrated/Popular Anime Characters That You Can't Stand.

I would agree based on your principle. But at the same time, I can also agree with some of the posters here who has a legitimate reason for strongly disliking a character. Even if you delve into these kind of characters, why they`re presented the way they are, their backstory or their reasons behind every single thing they do, blah blah blah, they still come out as an atrocious character.
One thing about analyzing a certain work such as anime is too look at the characters from a critical standpoint, not just the point of view from a gushing fan. You can like a work but not their characters.

For example:
I like Evangelion (to a certain degree; I`ll admit, it could be extremely flawed and tedious, but that`s a discussion for another day), but I know that I hate at least 85% of the characters of that show. (85% because I`ve come into better terms with Asuka, but at the same time, she`s still a arrogant little bitch). You constantly have to delve into Shinji`s psyche episode after episode after episode (etc. before my head explodes!) and he stills cannot get over his self-loathing, but instead, turns to post modern existential nonsense that even Eva`s most sane fans would sling poo at the screen for all his dumbass choices, and an even more ridiculous conclusion (all THREE times). Rei has the personality of a blank slate (LITERALLY) that only serves as otaku fapping material. (I can honestly go on all day about this, but lets stop here).

The point I`m trying to make is that even though you get to know a character through an extensive degree, to the point of having a better understanding of them, doesn`t mean you`ll like them any better than before.

I understand and agree with you to a certain extent. Not every character created is compatible to everyone since every individual has a different perception, views, thoughts, etc. I mean it would be unnatural if someone in this world like everybody or everything they see. But my argument was about how there are so many people here who don't give a good constructive criticism and would just plainly insult the characters on appearance or the prominent blunt sides of characters.

Since you mentioned Evangelion, I would like to state my views on the anime. Personally I love the anime for it's realism in most parts and how it reflects how most of individual in society feels. In a way you can relate with a lot of the characters in this series, seeing how many flaws and conflicts the characters have. (Although I agree with you on Rei a little bit, but I don't hate her or like her.) Since it'll be too long to talk about each important character, I'll just stick with the weak protagonist Shinji Ikari. Shinji, out of every character I have seen so far, is created with a great sense of realism. Many people have a problem with how he can hardly fight in any battles when piloting the EVA 01 unit, and would call him a "pussy". I doubt that anyone who has hardly have any training with piloting against a monster would be able to fight properly like chivalrous heroes who knows how to handle everything. Even if you don't want to pilot it everyone is relying on you to not disappoint and save them by risking your own life. It understandable why Shinji would become emotionally distraught with his own desires to live a peacefully versus not disappointing everybody especially his father's expectations. I could go on but I might just drag on and waste people's time.... x_x;;;

I thought that after years of being brainwashed he had no chance of becoming the boy he once was, it was even shown how twisted he was during the Tower arc but some how he conveniently got amnesia. -__- Kumagawa from Medaka Box At first this guy was this scary seemingly invincible antagonist that pretty much overpowered Medaka but after his defeat, he was turned into this overpowered "good loser" troll. Misogi Kumagawa, who is known as the loser of the series doesn't really ever lose, he simply gives up or lets himself lose once he has tricked his opponent that they have been defeated. It was pretty clever at first but now it's just annoying. Kirito/Kazuto, Yui, and Asuna from Sword Art Online One is overpowered, the other is this annoying moe AI, and the last one is this seemingly perfect girl. Together they make the perfect Full house family that fight against anything that threatens to break their perfect family. Yes, even Suguha because she isn't perfect.
