Have you guys noticed that japanese music really changed from the usually happy joyful sound to like the cool serious voice?

for example:

Arashi- Truth and Believe
Hey Say Jump- Mayonaka no Shadow Boy
NEWs- Taiyou no Namida

i dunno maybe its just me

Aren't the boy bands usually the "cool serious voice" and the girl bands/idols the "happy joyful sound"?

Yeah, it does seem like it. More and more artists are coming out with sad or serious songs. Though I like the happy music, I don't mind the new stuff, like Stereo Pony (listen to their singles, they have good music!)

J-pop can have different styles rather than happy all the time. If it was like that, it would be boring, right?

It's more of a seasonal thing. Ballads usually come in the fall/winter while the summer is filled with upbeat, faster songs.

I prefer listening to dark mood songs then to the happy joyous kind.
And seasonal +1

I always thought that boybands were the happy joyous bubbly pop stuff.

Call it a coincidence, but ever since all these R&B artists (Namie Amuro, Koda Kumi) have made it bigger than them, all the
boybands have tried to switch to the heavier beat sound.

what?
isn't Believe by Arashi a happy joyful sound?
i think that's the case with Arashi or News, they sometimes release a happy sound or a serious ballady song.
it's not like Japanese music is changing bec of that. Arashi/ News or other artists sometimes offer a veriety of songs. they can't always release bubbly songs.

and hey, KAT TUN isn't going for bubbly songs ever since debut. so it's not like they changed or something.
