they always have sad stories! D:

Spike Lee probably because his story is so simple yet so heartbreaking.
I don't like background stories where everything and everyone dies.

Kyoko from Skip Beat! because I can relate.

How about Euphemia from code Geass?
Her father might possibly love her more than any of his other children, or possibly he loves them all so little that nobody can tell who his favorite is. Her mother might be alive at the time of Code geass and love her, but she might have died when Euphemia was little. If Euphemia's mother died when she was little Cornelia might have become Euphemia's guardian while she was still just a child herself. Or Marianne might have become Euphemia's second mother until she was murdered when Euphemia was nine.

Since Emperor Charles had dozens of children Lelouch, Nunnally, and Euphemia might have been outcasts in the eyes of most of the imperial children for various reasons and might have had only themselves to play with. Nunnally was probably Euphemia's best friend and it must have been terrible for her to see Nunnally blinded and crippled when Marianne was murdered. Then Lelouch and Nunnally were separated from Euphemia when they were sent to Japan. Then Britannia invade Japan and Lelouch and Nunnally were reported killed.

Nobody know how happy or unhappy Euphemia was in the seven years between the invasion of Japan and Code Geass, but her desire to get back together with Nunnally indicates she might have been alone and unhappy, with no friends and only Cornelia to love her. At some point she attended a school of some kind, where she may have been very popular or considered some kind of nerd or loser.

In "Black Knight" Euphemia had a rather calm conversation with her brother's killer in a room full of dead bodies. Either Euphie was born with a highly unusual degree of self control or her training as a Britannian princess and/or her experiences as a Britannian princess had prepared her for that kind of situation. The possibility that her previous life experiences had prepared her for such situations of course would contradict the usual belief that her life was quiet before she came to Japan.

If Euphemia had been forced to be polite in social situations with people who had killed one or more of her siblings in duels that would explain her behavior in "Black Knight" with the least possible contradiction of the idea that she had a quiet life before coming to Japan. But we don't know if duels are legal in Britannia or if dueling with members of the imperial family is allowed.

Euphemia is polite and never insults anyone that I remember except when controlled by the geass. But she doesn't seem to react to being insulted by Kallen Either she was born with a highly unusual personality or she has been insulted and humiliated so often (by other members of the imperial family?) that she doesn't mind insults any more.

Euphemia seems to take the dangers she meets in Japan quite calmly. She acts like it is no big deal for people to try to kill her. Either she was born with a highly unusual personality or somehow she has faced enough dangers that she got used to danger.

So possibly Euphemia simply has a highly unusual personality. Or possibly she had a really strange and terrible life which has made her the person she is in Code Geass.

Yeah, most of the memebers from the Sanzo party had pretty emotional pasts, Gojyo and Hakkai's would probably be the most messed up.
