Introduction
When the record-breaking Korean box office hit The Host was selected for Directors' Fortnight in Cannes in 2006, it encouraged director Bong Joon-ho to push the boundaries of Korean cinema even further. In his hard-hitting new crime drama, Mother, the lead character is not a detective but a devoted and determined mother. When her son is accused of a horrible murder in their neighborhood, her maternal instinct forces her to conduct her own investigation, one that will uncover dangerous secrets as she unravels the mysterious truth.

Plot
Widowed for a long time, a mother lives alone with her only son. He is 28 years old, a shy and quiet young man.
One day there is a terrible murder, and the woman’s hopeless, helpless son becomes the prime suspect. There is no real evidence against him, but the police groundlessly suspect him almost instantly. The trouble is that there is no way he can prove his innocence.
Eager to close the case, the police are happy with their cursory investigation and they arrest the boy. His defense attorney turns out to be incompetent and unreliable and a conviction seems inevitable. So, faced with no other choice, his mother gets involved, determined to prove her son’s innocence.

Director's Statement
I want to make the saddest yet most beautiful crime drama ever. At the center of this story is a small and weak mother who stands alone, a woman who gazes in a vague direction with obsessive eyes, a woman so determined that she can’t even stop herself. As she drags up and cracks open the dark, damp secrets, one by one, slowly the sadness and the beauty of her story will come to light.

Notes
As of November 10, 2008 "Mother" has completed approximately 20% of its filming. The movie has already sold distribution rights to Diaphana Films in France (previously released Secret Sunshine in 65 theatres in France) and Bitters End in Japan.

Won Bin is returning through a new film directed by the famous Bong Joon-ho director. The film, "Mother - 2009" has its teaser trailer released on the 7th and has been greatly anticipated since.

"Mother - 2009" is about a mentally challeged young man who is accused of a murder which his mother denies and fights to prove him innocent. This film is about a mother's unconditional love and passion to save his son. The mother character is acted by the talented actress, Kim Hye-ja.

Won Bin's last film "My Brother" in 2004 has been so long ago that the fans are waiting for the release of this new film with big hopes.

We can see Won Bin's great acting even through this teaser trailer. Fans are also greatly awaiting for his transformation into a new character which is so different fron any other characters he has been.

yes he did,, but couldn't complete the 2 year mandatory service due to leg injury...

Won Bin was called into military duty in the South Korean Army in November 2005. He was stationed at the Korean border, a position for which he volunteered. On June 2, 2006, the military officially confirmed Won Bin's discharge. The decision was made by the military when the actor sustained injury to his ACL. The actor has undergone surgery and has officially been discharged on June 7, 2006. After the surgery, the actor had gone through rehabilitation program for more than one year to recover from the injury.

Won Bin was appointed as UNICEF Special Representative of the Korean Committee on September 6, 2007. The actor's new movie 'Mother' directed by Bong Joon-Ho will be released in the first half of 2009.
