Not surprised to learn that it was a Republican that said that. I hardly expect good ideas from the group these days.

i don't think so. if we americans can't pronounce the name, then that means we're too lazy or too much in a hurry to even try to get the pronunciation right...

Why am I not surprised this motion was brought forward by a white, right-wing, middle class texan?

It seems this particular sect of society in the US continues to attempt to manipulate the world to its liking. Good luck with that, I say.

Finally some1 other than myself and possibly the OP has finally connected the dots. Meh, these guys are making the Republican Party worst day-by-day. I feel sorry for the Republicans because a majority of the Republican Party is represented by these assholes.......*sighs*

It's pretty sad, because I was born with an English name, but hearing this wow! What else can I change my name to? Mochingazaki? That lady's just I mean hello I'm pretty sure in the US there is that thing called freedom of speech and why hit on the Asians? I'm pretty sure there are other minorities who have hard names. Why the Asian? Kinda mean of her. Wonder if she is really apologizing for the matter. I agree with you J on them making the Republican Party worser by day. But ftw, GO Canada!~

It was a suggestion that the woman made so that people with difficult-to-pronounce last names would have less trouble registering to vote. o.o; She wasn't saying that they have to be completely changed, nor was she trying to insult anyone.

When I was in first grade, I had a classmate who had been born in the Philippines, and even the teachers couldn't pronounce his birth name (and they tried). So everyone just called him a romanized/americanized version of his first and last names. Were we insulting him? No. We couldn't pronounce his name, so we needed an alternative.

My name is hard to pronounce (not really, but for some people it is). I'd rather be called Alex (nickname) than have someone butcher my birth name.

I didn't think that this was nearly as big of a deal as it is being made out to be. Like a math teacher whose students couldn't understand something: teach it a different way.

I won't change it , why should I have to do that for other people's sake ? Why don't they learn to pronouced my name correctly , change my name mean change all of my profile identity . (my name is very hard to pronoun I admitted it , but the American eventually get it in just a few try , so it shouldn't be a problem )

lol ignorance at its finest! If someone can't pronounce an Asian's name then they'll have to get used to it.

Uh, No.

They should be able to keep their names. Americans need to learn to pronounce their name. It isnt hard, afterall. Just look up on the internet on how to pronouce letters that might be in their name, or, get a tutor.

Either make them learn to read Asian names,
or change a super complicated name.
