Although I think that she was more saying that we get a western name as well as have our asian names. But chinese surnames are simple enough as it is and i really don't see how changing their names will help with identification.

Well, I wouldn't want to change my name just so that some idiotic person can pronounce them so NO. BUT it's their choice.

My name's just one syllable, it's not that difficult.

But unfortunately I know alot of other Asians who have done this.

This is ridiculous, of course they shouldn't change their name. It's their identity.

That is just stupid.

I believe that your name is what makes you are, you've had it since you were born. Why change is because a couple of people can't pronounce it. That's why there's nicknames.

That's so selfish it's disgustiing!!!

What if you moved to Japan and some guy told you "Oh btw your name is Hanshou now..."
(that's just a random name btw...it means 'midnight' from what I've heard)

Well, of course, he wouldn't say it in English like I just did, but still, wouldn't you feel angry and stuff? I know I would!
But I go by Misa on my own accord because she's all I ever talk about cuz she is my favorite anime character, but if someone told me I HAD to change my name so Japanese people could pronounce it, I'd be super pissed!!!

I can believe that someone at that age, from Texas, with such a common American name like Betty Brown, would say something so utterly clueless, nonsensical and preposterous as she did. And we the people of the US vote these aberrant morons into office. If she's unable to pronounce people's names, then she needs to learn how to do so. Not change them to make it easier for her to pronounce. But I would imagine at her age, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. She should be booted out of office for coming up with an idea so absurd. I'm so totally appalled at her remarks.
