Is it wrong to download copyrighted material via Torrents?

it's not illegal. it's appreciating art or whatever.

After being objective it really is unfair. It's basically people putting their lively hood into their works and everyone just taking from it. I mean sure they make enough money but you're kinda are taking their dough out of their pockets.

And it's so much easier to get it for free. I absolutely understand that though...

it is wrong... but no one cares... some are even ripping movies of the internet... if the police were to chase all those guilty of downloading copyrighted material, the jail wouldn't even fit 0.001 % of the people.

If you liked what you got, you should support the creator by buying the product afterwards... Like movies/ music etc. If everyone would just get everything for free... How would they make new stuff?

So my opinion is, if you like something, support the creator by buying the products. Even if it was afterwards !

If it's simply wrong to download stuff trough a torrent? Depends.
If you download it because you just want to avoid paying for anything: Sure it's wrong.
If you download it because it's not available to you anywhere nearby: Discussable (shipping can be a bitch).
If you download it to determine whether it worth paying for or not: Just make sure to pay for it afterwards to send a message. "I really liked this product, and I'd like to see more of this in the future."

Personally, I preferred to stay within the last two examples back home.

At least torrenting something isn't as bad as re-selling copies of a product (for profit) without either having the legal rights to do so or contributing to the developers based on the profit.

I got caught out once, for downloading - of all things - the movie cloverfield. I felt so... stupid. I mean... I had so much... stuff - and I get busted for having that terrible movie on my HD... cloverfield... bleh.

People don't realize that when you are using a torrent program.. your IP isn't exactly private unless you take measures to mask it. So independant 'agents' approach major companies, like sony in my case, and say - "Hey, we'll give you a list of people who have stolen your property - if you give us a cut of the money you get from them as a result of the bust" .

All it takes is one of these 'agents' to be a peer involved in the exchange of the files you are downloading/uploading. Compliling a list of offenders isnt difficult, its readily available through the torrent programs being used.

Yes, it IS wrong to NOT pay for things that are... sold. Don't download copyrighted stuff. And if you DO decide to - stay away from current/popular media, because you will be alot more likely to be caught downloading stuff like that.

Your ISP WILL discontinue service after 2 incidents, in most cases, too!
