I'm a little late to this post, but...
YES! You absolutely can make waffles without a waffle iron.
First of all, pancakes and waffles have very different recipes.
Second a waffle iron is just a skillet that cooks from both sides at once.
The indents in a waffle iron just give it the “waffle” design.
If you took all the dents out of a waffle it would only be as thick as a pancake.
If you don't mind taking an extra minute and manually flipping it, you will have a perfectly good, dentless waffle.
Now technically the word "waffle" describes the pattern but I believe that in the spirit of the question, the answer is still yes.
PS. Traditional waffles are supposed to be crisp, pancakes are fluffy.

It wouldn't look like and be called waffles then.

Well.
First you find an object with a square pattern thingy.
Then you get nekkid and sit on it.
Once you have an imprint of it in your ass, you sit on a hot pancake.
Cut off edges so it'll be a square.

You're welcome.

I don't think that's possible... you need a waffle iron. I eat pre-made waffles, I really don't know.

Wouldn't that just be a pancake? Lol.

Well..not if you had a really good substitute, maybe.
