Glad to see this actually getting some posts by people other than the triumvirate moderators...

Sidenote: When did this become a harry-potter-a-thon?

To jump into the potter fray, I will first say that I have read all the books (multiple times), so I am confidant in my abillity to talk about it.

Ignoring my feelings on book seven (I'm still repressing it) the series was a fun else-world that was poorly exploited by the author. As such, it has borne many great fanfiction pieces that greatly outshine the original cannon series.

However, saying that it is a direct plaigerism of Tamora Pierce is a heavily generalized statement. Inspiration strikes at the wierdest times, and many of our thoughts and ideas are created and shaped by our experiences. It is done sub-consciously, just like getting a song stuck in your head. You don't know why (most of the time) you have that tune floating around, but you know that it just appeared for one reason or another.

A great example of modern plaigerism is Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida', with the chord progression being exactly the same as Joe Satriarni's 'If I could fly".

Pointless argument has left me rather bored, I think i'll go read some FF.

Shiro.

Y'know, while you're mentioning FF and i've recently played a Square Enix game, there's only one thing i want to say:

DEATH TO CLOUD STRIFE!! EMOS MAKE BAD HEROES!!!!!!!
Sephiroth wasn't that bad, but really, the extended Final Fantasy brings back memories of how terrible the extended universe of Star Wars was.

Well I never really thought that she might not have used the alternate universe to its full ability, but looking back, its kind of true.

Its probably because it was J.K.'s first published book, if she had gotten more practice with writing professionally before Harry Potter, it'd probably be better than it already is. :P

And haha yeah, Harry Potter does tend to have great fanfiction, though of course this is to be expected, as it gets more FF than anything else.

And it seems this thread has stopped discussing Twilight altogether. XD

Lol well it didn't seem any of us were typing in a blind rage or anything. XD

Haha, I don't think anyone yet mentioned that Meyer is squeezing all the money possible out of Twilight. Just look at Midnight Sun! Re-writing a book in someone else's perspective is absolutely disgraceful.

Just because all of it is bashing, doesn't mean it not a discussion! Honestly, if I had anything good to say about Twilight, maybe I'd say it, but I really can't think of anything..

*thinks*

The covers look nice?

Oh no, we must turn this compliment into an insult stat! Aha the cover merely highlights the fact that Meyer has the creative depth and originality of an apple metaphor. I mean seriously, an apple metaphor? If that's the best you can come up with then shame on you...
Then there's the fact that she has a biblical verse tying together her lovely fruit filled symbolism. Sheesh I don't know if it's just me but I think directly quoting the Bible is probably the cheesiest way to introduce the idea of forbidden love. There's also the fact that Bella is far from a sensuous forbidden fruit (or so we keep being told), in fact she would be better depicted as a blueberry with a speech bubble saying 'Edward is berry berry hawt, I'm always so blue when he's not here...whinge whinge whinge whinge... ' or perhaps an orange saying 'please try and juice as much out of my paper thin personality as possible'.
Anyway I think the premise of the forbidden fruit would work a lot better if Bella was literally forbidden. Wow it seems I got a bit carried away there...

Lol sure I have no problem with that. :P

Lol but I like blueberries, Bella isn't good enough to be one. Lol yeah you're right that the biblical verse thing was lame, I never knew what the cover meant, and I asked someone and they said it was because Edward catches Bella's apple or something in the movie/book. XD I found out about the 'forbidden fruit' thing later.

I bet that is the REAL reason. XD

Isn't Edward supposed to be the forbidden fruit?

Eww, I did not need the mental image that juicing Edward gives me. Besides, if he were a fruit then bella wouldn't have a chance. The fangirls would be shipping Edward/Jacob instead.

Alternatively, if Edward was a fruit, he'd probably be horse radish. No one wants it and it seems to last forever.

Yeah and there'd be hordes of fanart, where they'd be eating him. Lol the problem is that too many want it.

Lol, I found this a little while ago, it is absolutely hilarious: http://otahyoni.livejournal.com/130432.html

And lol that person wrote this too:

"The more I think about this vampire apple thing, the more I like it. I mean, it's so sneaky!

You're a vampire, and you've broken into a grocery store. Because you can do that. You hoist yourself up on the Red Delicious display and - poof! - turn yourself into an apple.

And you wait.

Someone buys you, takes you home and chucks you in the fridge. But you're patient. You're dead; it's not like you're going to starve to death. Eventually your victim pulls you from the fridge, washes you, gives you a shine on their sleeve, and then lifts you toward their face, mouth open to taste your Red Deliciousness.

And - poof! - you revert to your usual form and attack!

It's genius. The ultimate ambush. Who'd be wary of an apple? I'm surprised no one's thought of it before."

Haha, I didn't get it at first, but then I realized. Because its full of crap? XD

Haha and come to think of it, I have more right than anyone to say that Twilight sucks.

It's directed at my age range! I am a 13-year old girl, (just turned recently) and I hate it with a passion. What more proof do you need!

Then again, I'm not obsessed with boys, have an IQ level of 20, or have never picked up a book besides Twilight. (Well I've never actually read Twilight, but I've looked into it enough to back up my arguments, and I might've read the book, but after reading the first chapter, I thought I was going to throw up/die of laughter. )

Honestly, the whole first chapter just describes Bella's clothing.

I have a younger (by several years, but still old enough that she should know better) sister who loves this book. We dialogued (see argued) over its apparent literary merits. I won.

I will say that the journal link that you posted certainly made my day, though I now also feel depressed considering i'm an awful lot older than all of the other triumvirate members.

Hehe yeah probably, but it seemed to fit in with my bagging out Bella at the time and I guess they're both forbidden fruit respectively. Bella shouldn't love Edward because he could kill her at any moment and Edward shouldn't love Bella because... err well because he's a nice tame vampire apple. I'm sure you can find them nestling up against each other in the forbidden fruits isle at the grocery store.

Hahaha. Aww don't feel bad, if it makes you feel any better, I thought you were like 20 until I saw how old you were.

And I'm very young for a crunchy-roller. :P

I shall be sure to keep away from that isle. I'll be blinded by how DAZZLING it is. XD
