Bleach, Naruto, and Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X aren't samurai anime.

My first samurai anime [in that it features samurai] was Ghost Sweeper Mikami I saw around '92 or so.
My first samurai anime [in that it centers around samurai] was The Hakkenden I saw around '94
My first samurai manga was Lone Wolf and Cub that I first read around '96

Not quite.
Do I need to teach you what "Samurai" means again?

Action Shounen. or Chanbara-Anime and anime like

Chanbara refers to swashbuckling. Swashbuckling [blade to blade dueling with many parries and blocks] is actually non-existent in Japanese martial arts such as Kenjutsu. The term in the use of a genre was first implemented to classify those movies which center around wild and unrealistic swordfighting like the movies Zaotichi and Lone Wolf and Cub

Jidaigeki refers to a genre of film or anime or manga in which the setting is in Japan often in the Sengokujidai and Edojidai. Post-Meijijidai are not considered Jidaigeki so Samurai X and Naruto are out as Samurai X involves the Meijijidai and Naruto is not even set in Japan.

Chanbara or Action can both be used to classify them.

A "Samurai Anime" can mean only two things.
1. An anime that revolves around characters who are samurai..
or 2. An anime centering around samurai or directly about samurai.
But to be honest there is no known genre called "Samurai Anime"

Even Samurai Champloo and Afro Samurai would not be Samurai Anime as the main characters on Samurai Champloo are Ronin and thus no longer exist as samurai. Afro Samurai has nothing to do with samurai at all. It's called that for a catchy marketing ring.

For example; Just because someone uses kenjutsu and follows bushido and wears kimono and hakama doesn't make them a samurai as a samurai is defined as a vassal-knight serving under a daimyo.

Gah Kenshin isn't a samurai anime. =P [See above post]
Though I believe Desfines should rename the topic to "Jidaigeki" or "Chanbara Anime."
