pea coat - de rigueur at the beaches in San Diego, California

i've worn them all my life since being a Sea Scout as a 14 year old.
and I mean ALL my life. it's not the only thing i ever wore in a coat, and i was never in the navy or any other branch of the military. but i never forgot my Sea Scout days, and i've always had it as part of my wardrobe. a naval bridge officer's coat is longer and is cool too, but not everyone can get or afford those and they're a little too pompous with the gold eagle buttons. so if you want the most popular version, it's the plain and simple pea coat with the black plastic anchor buttons. it has perfect styling and is totally functional and very warm and comfortable in the right size. add a pair of blue jeans and a white tee-shirt, barefoot or with shoes, and you're good to go.

i didn't say that just because the pic shows this. i wrote it first and googled for the pic. i'm not kidding. this is the combination. the pic is only missing the tee-shirt, but you can of course wear any shirt with it you like. i believe a genuine US Navy pea coat is not actually black, but a very dark blue.

i got the above pic from amazon.com,
http://www.amazon.com/Pritti-Womens-Button-Solid-Peacoat/dp/B000BNLSVQ
which unfortunately is out of stock. but check out the comments there. notice where someone says; "This peacoat is made of sturdy, yet soft, high quality Italian wool. It is fully lined and even has a hidden pocket in the lining. The stitching is sturdy and the construction of the whole jacket has a substantial feel, yet the look is sheer feminine! The short cut of this peacoat is so flirty, it can be worn with jeans or dressed up with a nice pair of slacks."

guys can get the men's style with a much longer lower hem.

ladies try here and check out the sub-links a little lower down;
http://www.amazon.com/Nine-West-Pea-Coat/dp/B000UUR01M/ref=pd_sbs_a_title_1

anyone picks on you for your taste in styles, ignore them b/c they're either n00bs or they don't know what they're talking about.

here is a history of the name for a peacoat and a nice pic of what to get for a guy in masculine styling;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pea_coat

here's a nice source, but make sure what size you are b/c i don't know if they allow exchanges;
http://www.legendaryusa.com/Wool_Naval_Peacoats_s/30.htm

when my old one wore out i spent hours and days searching ebay for a like-new replacement in my size and finally found one for $100. i like the size 40XL. the XL means 'extra-long' but it's only about one-half to one inch longer in the sleeves and bottom hem, and it's still got the black anchor buttons and is nowhere near as long as the bottom hem on a gold buttoned bridge coat.

in San Diego or any navy town, be sure to check the thrift stores.

pls excuse me for 'going overboard' with my post on this item, but it's worth every word.

MONARCHY!!!! But it's really, really expensive. ='[ Sucks. I only have three of their shirts. Project E's also pretty cool, but, again, they're far too expensive. I only have two of their shirts.
