Topic says it all I think. Topic title was changed. :P

Question is Raw or Subs or Dubs?

What's your anime preferance and why?
NO RANTING ABOUT DUBS please!

RAW for me. Dubs are usually crap 99% of the time and don't need Subs (plus they never can fit everything being said so you usually loss something.)

**Searched for 'raw' but only turned up videos.

I could have sworn that there was a thread on this before but I am unable to find it.

I'm going to delete some the past posts since they are off-topic.

I prefer subtitles over dubs. I think most people would prefer RAWs if they understood the language.

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if I should 'report' or not.

I found it really strange that alot of online fans I've run into prefer DUBS, which I can't fathom as the quality of English seiyuu is so poor (in general).

I would thought die-hard fans would prefer SUBS and raw (even if they don't understand) any day of the week. :)

Subs, even if i knew the language, subtitles make it many times easier to follow.

dubs are a lot more popular here in the west now since kids grow up watching anime in english - pokemon, dbz, etc. so it's not that much of a jump to start watching lesser known anime in english as well.

i got into anime through a club that showed old VHS fansubs, so I stick with subs the vast majority of the time.

there are a few animes I prefer in english though. Hellsing is far superior in english. Cowboy Bebop is also a good dub easily on par with the original japanese version.

i don't think many people here are capable of watching raws.

See, this is basically what I was saying before our posts were deleted. You're ranting about how dubs are terrible and how you can't imagine how anyone could ever want to watch one.

Why must die-hard fans prefer subs? Do you consider someone not to be a fan if they like dubs? There are some dubs that I prefer to the original.

& I've never understood why people say that, even if someone doesn't know the language, they should still watch RAWs. How the hell would someone know what's going on if they can't understand Japanese? I don't understand why you think someone would consider watching a series in a language they don't know.

Hmmm subs are probably the best one for the average viewer. However I would prefer to watch the RAWs if I could understand it...

That's what I was thinking happened.
I've even seen sites that list Poke and Digi as 'cartoons' even tho they have a sepearate anime section.

I prefer subs. I don't know any other language besides english... I know some korean and japanese, but not enough to just watch a raw and be able to understand it all.

I think a person can appreciate a film, drama, or anime series without understanding the language. It's a matter of appreciating the more technical aspects of work (the art, camera, etc) rather than the words exchanged (not to lessen the impact of words). It's the same way with music. lokita, do you understand Japanese? If not, then why do you appreciate Japanese music? Do you understand my point? You are able to appreciate a work without understanding the spoken language.

I do understand your point & I apologize if it seemed like I was out to cause trouble - it wasn't my intention at all. I don't agree with you about the music part, though. I don't feel that you have to be able to understand the language to like a certain song. With anime, however, a person would miss out on the entire story without help from subs/dubs. I just don't see why someone with no knowledge of the language would want to watch RAWs. I also don't understand why there are people that think everyone - whether they know the language or not - should watch RAWs. That's what I was trying to get across to ayarei.
