Seriously, I would want a seperate account after marriage. What if your spouse had a secret affair with you and took all your money? I wouldn't let that happen to me so I would make a different account put only $60,000 and $2,000 on my joint-account with my wife. I'm afraid of being cheated still very young and very strong and very picky about girls.

My beau and I have shared a bank account since we were 16, we are now 21. I've never thought about having a separate one, I wouldn't know who's money should go where. I think it makes certain things more complicated - would you each write separate checks for half the amount of each bill? Or you could just have one person pay certain bills and another person pay for others. That seems like too much work, but I very well may be the laziest person alive.

I think the main reason we've always shared a bank account it we've always thought of it as "our" money not "mine" and "his". If he asked me if I have money on me, I would just give it to him, it wouldn't occur to be to wonder why he needed it. I think it boils down to trust (like trusting your sig other not to have an affair and run off with your money) and I trust my guy with my life, money seems a lot less important after that.

if my man has his own account more power to him!!!! that means he can handle money well and is responsible....

now if the lazy fuck ever asks me to balance his checkbook i'll send him to hell

he is cheaing on me, robbing me, Or going to leave me. (atleast that what i would thinking if i was married)

If i marry i want to marry to stay together with that guy NOT to end up in divorce or being cheated on.
I dont plan on getting married, so im not worried about bank accounts.

Having a separate bank account is fine as long as it's not some kind of "secret" or reserved for the sole use of one individual in the relationship. Relationships may last or end, and until you can verify it can last, you shouldn't put yourself into a position to jeopardize your own money, even in terms of marriage. Problem is that people often read too deeply into it as if one spouse or partner may have the potential of "cheating" if they decide to have their own account - when in truth, such doubts and hunches are more likely to ruin the relationship than the actual separate bank account. However, with that said, I'd argue that once a couple has kids and whatnot... money should be pooled into one account with the intent of being used for the children.
