Hello, all moderators.

May 2009: This forum worked! Oh yeah^^ However there's still some MODS who haven't reported yet. Shall notify them soon.

Just around this corner, Writers Block has been very quiet. The forum for theme suggestions seems to be too quiet {I thought it will work fine - but I guess it didn't work well *shrug*}. So let's lend our hand to PurpleSkye to make Writers Block a very successful group - a very organized one as well.

Here, moderators are allowed to discuss anything about Writers Block.
Here, moderators can complain anything that they're not satisfied with Writers Block.

Writers Block seriously needs your help. It's falling. So please help out.
Please leave a suggestion here about what should Writers Block do to achieve our goals.

Yes, again. All MODS of Writers Block have to report every month. Don't worry, we won't do any harm. We just want to know whether is our MOD working hard or whether they visit here often.

*Cough* It's quiet again.

Special thanks to pyrotechnics17 and animexcool for keeping our Writer's Block Story up to date!

ahh sorry, I'm here. I just having been having the time to write stories lately
And also, there's not really much a secretary can do except keep everything in check.
I guess I can update the page whenever there is a new author in the group

....I guess I'm a mod? So I guess I'm supposed to weigh in?

Well, at risk of sounding like a jerk (since I'm not exactly here all that often myself), if you want my opinion, your membership base is bloated compared to actual members.

It's an open club, right? Which means people can read posts without actually becoming members of the group. So why not remove any members who haven't been active for a certain amount of time (or at all)? This will give you a far more accurate estimate of how many people are actually IN the group as opposed to merely observing it.
I mean, many members of this group (such as myself) may have basically abandoned Crunchyroll for less ... this place-ish pastures. If you start removing anyone who hasn't participated for a certain length of time, this will at least tell you that much.

Then you've got two other problems;
1) Lack of member participation
2) Small member base

These are actually tied together, really, if you think about it. If you only have 20 or 30 active members, then of course they're only going to be active occasionally. Writing is a fair bit of work.

So you have a few options there.
1) Try to actively recruit. Those of you who post regularly on the forums could put up some info about the group in your sig, including the fact that you're recruiting new members.
2) Figure out who and what your target audience is. I recognize that I'm probably in the minority of males in this group. Do you want this to be mainly for females? Do you want to expand to ALL writers? Do you want to go after the fanfic / fanpoem niche? Do you want more aggressive editors? Whatever you think your target audience is, start aiming your group in a direction to appeal to them
3) Expand your focus for more "mainstream" appeal. This doesn't really work so well with a CR group, though. The main idea would be that you widen out into a variety of areas, but since groups on CR tend to be designed as a sort of niche affair, this would basically mean you'd wind up having to separate from CR and perhaps set up your own forums, poaching friends, and widening out until you have a mass appeal.
4) Accept that you're going to have sporadic posting and few active members, being a subsection of a forum aimed at a certain audience, and that writing is hard work and many people on CR never join any groups at all.

There's probably other options, but those seem to be a pretty basic breakdown to me. As for myself, this is the only place on CR I actually go anymore, which is why I'm not exactly regular.

Hey there! Thank you again for this very intriguing input. You gave me and the other mods who may have read this quite a lot to think about. I like using my brain once in a while so yeah, thanks so much!

Anyways, everything you said made a lot of sense though I never really considered things from your point of view. But things are easier said than done. You've pointed out the main problem, that is, there isn't much who come to crunchy a lot anymore and people don't really enjoy writing as much as I (or any of its loyal members) do. It's hard, yes, but it is fulfilling in its own way. I don't really know how I can show people that. Another thing is that most of the members that have joined, aren't really actively participating in group activities while I share your view on just kicking out inactive members, I think that it would seriously deplete the member count to more or less a hundred out of almost six hundred.

"It's an open club, right? Which means people can read posts without actually becoming members of the group."

-About that statement of yours I think I have a suggestion other than what you've shared. If I made it a closed group or something like that (I saw groups with their group information hidden to non-members). If we do that, maybe more people would join? The downside to that idea is that people won't see what there is to the group and might not want to join at all.

This is a very difficult problem to face, indeed. I mean, people come to crunchyroll to watch animes (if the current crunchy still allows its members to watch at all because of all the licensing stuff) and possibly discuss them in the many groups here in the site - a story/fanfiction group would less likely interest them. More people are drawn to join anime/manga/character/pairing fan clubs, role-playing groups and also the avatar/banner/icon making/requesting groups so there really is no competing with those groups. There are scarcely any groups like Writers Block so I thought that would be enough to get members. It worked at first that's why this group reached 500+ members. I even try to change the theme ever so often to keep them interested.

Okay, that was me ranting already. Sorry for that. Maybe I was just hoping some of the members or the mods would read this and realize their duty to the group they joined. Anyways, I'm going to be taking some of your advice. Thank you very much for them.

As for myself, this is the only place on CR I actually go anymore, which is why I'm not exactly regular.

I am very touched, thanks so much. I hope that won't stop you from visiting this group at least every once in a while, okay? Please and thank you (again).
